Hi there, this is my first post here ^^

I know a lot of old DOS games here are made to run on Windows using DOSBox, and that they can be played on a Mac using DOSBox, too. But that still requires a Windows PC to get the needed files from the .exe, wich is pretty inconvenient.

Fortunately there is Boxer for Mac, a DOSBox based application which simply wraps alle files and preferences into a gamebox file, which can be launched by simply double-cklicking it. I made a litte video to demonstrate, showcasing how to install Daggerfall and Arena:

It's really easy to make such a gamebox, and I would really appreciate it, if GoG also offered a boxer file in addition to the .exe for DOS games.

Boxer, as well as a few gameboxes, can be found at

This is the second thread in a row that I've seen mentioning Boxer, and it's starting to bug me. Please, please try searching the forums for terms like "Boxer" and "DOSBox", and you'll find that many have already made the suggestion that GOG provide Linux/Mac-friendly installers for its DOS-based games, or have already figured out how to do so using Boxer. Otherwise it just clutters up the forums with redundant requests.

And I should have pointed this out in the other thread, but the .gamebox files that Boxer generates are not native Mac .app files - they're simple document files that act as wrappers for the DOS game files used within DOSBox.
How many times?

GOG offering Mac support = GOG offering Mac support. It's not a matter of them not making things more convenient. It's a matter of them not yet being able to support the platform (not that they can even keep up with supporting the PC).
I searched or "mac", which returned no results, so I figured there is no topic like that. Sorry

Well, if it's already widely known, then this thread is just a waste of space.

One of the weaknesses of the forum search engine (and other forum search engines too) is that they can't recognize search strings that they are deemed as being too short; hence, searching for "Mac" will turn up zero hits, as would searching for "Mac OS X". Searching for things like "Boxer" or "CrossOver" or "WINE" would be fruitful, though.

Hello HiPhish, and welcom to GOG.

Don't feel bad. True, threads like this already exist, but don't feel discouraged from posting in future.

Boxer might very well be provided in future, but I doubt that GOG will plan new platforms until they've finished ensuring that the whole catalogue works in Windows 7.

Oh, don't worry, it takes a bit more, to discourage me from anything ;) It just sucks, that my first post was such an epic failure.
I simply figured, since there were no topics on "Mac", that GoG might not be aware of boxer. Well, I guess, I'll just have to wait.
+1 for admitting the 'epic failure' - don't worry, there's been loads worse....;o)

And welcome from me as well.

For what it's worth, I apologize for coming across as being an ass - raising the profile of the Mac (as well as Linux) on GOG is always important, it's just that I've been noticing a lot of redundant posts lately when it's come to GOG and the Mac, and it got me a little annoyed.

In any case, welcome to GOG! You'll find an embarassment of riches for the consummate computer gamer, no matter what platform you're on. In a way, I'm glad I'm not on Windows, because if I were, I would have spent all of my meagre savings on GOG's releases by now...

And +1 here too. Not an epic failure as you do have 10 responses.
Anyone got Raptor: Call of the Shadows 2010 Edition working on Boxer? Could really use some help.

The 2010 Edition isn't dosbox and will never work in boxer. There is a mac port in the macappstore for 5 dollars and it doesn't appear to be restricted in anyway.
