So I now own the majority of the Forgotten Realms DOS/PC games and am trying to figure out the chronology of the games from start to finish so I can play them in that specific order.. I tried looking online and I found a couple for the novels but not a definitive timeline for the games.. I did find out what year the games were developed but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are in that order.

Does anyone know the order of events the games take place in?

All I know is:

Pool of Radiance
Curse of the Azure Bonds
Secret of the Silver Blades
Pools of Darkness

But that should be fairly obvious from the graphics.
So far, is this correct?

Pool of Radiance Series
Pool of Radiance
Curse of the Azure Bonds
Secret of the Silver Blades
Pools of Darkness
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor

Hillsfar

Eye of the Beholder Series
Eye of the Beholder
Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon
Eye of the Beholder III: Assault on Myth Drannor

Savage Frontier Series
Gateway to the Savage Frontier
Treasures of the Savage Frontier

Release date doesn't exactly translate to chronology.. =/

Edit: I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't think that's enough to go off of is all.

Ah, you mean in-universe chronology. Thought you meant real-world release chronology.

Sadly, it's my understanding that few CRPG's are actually canon in the Forgotten Realms setting, so it's quite possible that there is no official timeline. That said, I know many of them do call out specific dates so that may work for you.

Actually there are over 25 games in the Forgotten Realms universe, if that's what you were referring to by "Canon". Sadly, I'm not familiar with that word.. =P

But yes, it's been hard to find a clear chronology for the games... that's why I hope posting here might help.. =(
OT I used to work in a bookstore. We were supposed to keep the FR books in order. RIIIIIIIIIGGGHHHHT.

... Do you ever post relevant information...? I mean, I watch you post a lot and the majority of your posts are OT...

Seriously though... I'm still searching all over the place for an answer to this.. =(

"Canon" means it's officially part of the chronology of the universe. Non-canon means it's a spinoff product that isn't considered part of the official timeline.

Ah, I see... interesting in that case.. This might be harder than I originally thought. =/

Not at all, it just gets kind of irritating after a while ;)

Sigh... I guess I'll just play the games in the order of their release date and hope for the best.. If anyone does figure this out though PLEASE PM me on GOG and let me know the chronological order! I'm going to leave this thread unmarked/unsolved until then.. if then happens.. =/

For what it's worth - Curse of the Azure Bonds fits in somewhere AFTER the book Azure Bonds.

Pool of Radiance and Pools of Darkness had novelizations released so I guess they became canon. Find out where those books fit in the FR Chronology and you will see where the two games in between fit in.

I have never seen any of the Eye of the Beholder games referenced in-universe so they may be non-canon as well.

Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 I think became canon. The novels of them at least.

Can't speak for Neverwinter Nights 1+2 either. Could go either way.
If you like the Pools of Radiance/Cure/Secret/Darkness series, try the Krynn series as well. Those 7 goldbox games were my introduction to modern (as in not free CGA) gaming. I lurve them.
