I've got 2 message notifications next to my account thing. One was a PM which I got, the other I can't find but I just noticed they updated one of the games I have; will you get a message notification for that?

Yeah, you get game notifications in the same way as PM's and forum replies.

Look down your shelf and the updated game will have a little red block saying updated on its image

What browser are you using? IE shows me only the total number of notifications, but not how are they distributed. FF doesn't have this kind of problem, however.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri was updated recently (installer yesterday, patch today). Could be your lost notification?
