GOG is a business, and as such it's completely fine in charging whatever price is set by whatever standards are necessary (whether by GOG, by general sales of a game, or by a developer/publisher or rights holder). However, having some older games that are open source, and free, are a nice touch.
There are many free and even open source games to be found around the net , games that aren't meant to be charged due to age, lack of popularity, or simply not good enough to be under a dollar sign. If, however, GOG had a few more free games, I would only imagine that these games would continue to be updated by not just the GOG community with walkthroughs, windows and possibly even mac upgrades to be compataible on newer (and older) platforms, as well as simply seeing these games adorn our GOG shelves.
Upon joining GOG, new members are gifted right away with a bunch of free titles. There aren't many other free games to speak of. That's not to say there should be a ton, more so a few more would be adequate.
Warsow was a free game that came out October 8th, 2012. This may be such a game that would be put under this category, but there aren't many others to speak of.
Eventhough many games can be played with to work on newer systems, and other websites may offer upgraded, free versions of old out-of-date games, it would just be cool to be able to have them all in one place, in one community.
Like I said in the beginning, GOG is a business so they need to make money off the hard work they put into their games, all the patches and OS upgrades and so on, but there are a few games that wouldn't be a bad addition to the free category.
Feel free to list any and all games that are technically free elsewhere, legally. I have a few up my sleeve, but I wanted to know what others felt would be good games to be released here, free.
I do however know that some free games elsewhere are charged on GOG, such as Shadow Warrior, and some Zork's I believe. I don't mind paying for GOG's hard work, especially when it's a low-cost edition that's supported on newer platforms. Having windows 8 can be a bit of a pain for a lot of old games. But, the occasional free game is nice!
