My wife has a cheap crappy laptop. She loves adventure games and it runs Syberia and the Drawn series. I just got Dracula 4 for her (via the take one give one thread -- thank you for that!) and she also has a Sherlock game that she can only run on the big rig upstairs. The trick is that she can't play on that rig very often due to the constraints of 3 kids 4 and under.

So, I was wondering if there's any kind of program that will reliably be able to stream an adventure game. It doesn't need to be super-precise like an FPS stream, but something decent enough for the likes of Dracula 4.

It should carry sound, video and controller/keyboard support, of course.

Any ideas?

That's the app mentioned in the tutorial in my link up above. It looks promising. I can't wait to try it out later. It looks like that app in combination with a few others can get the job done. We shall soon see.

yeah there are other apps that people suggest on the nvidia thread I've sent you so you can see which one works the best for you. I've also found this one: http://www.kainy.com/whatiskainy.html

Sorry but I can't help you much more since I'm not familiar with this kind of apps :p One other (free) thing is that you can watch the kids while the wife is gaming :)

I found another one that you can use called Limelight which is open source but still in beta phase but people have reported that it works well. The catch is that you have to download GeForce Experience with it so you can only use it if your streaming from a PC that has an Nvidia Graphics card. haha kids and gaming is a deadly (almost impossible) combo. Sending them to grandma cause you want to finish a level always sounded immoral to me xD

Once that limelight is running, it's spectacular. Almost not latency at all. This won't work just for adventure games. You can play nearly anything. It only seems to work with Steam right now, but I'll cope with that.

Thats great, nice to hear it worked out really well for you and sorry forgot to tell you about it being Steam only for now. Thanks for the feedback about its functionality hopefully I can also make use of it as well whenever I get a new rig with Nvidia Graphics. :)

I was able to add Dracula 4 (GOG copy) to my steam library and it started right up.

The stinky part is that Steam doesn't auto-close, everything is run from command line, and you have to be at both computers to set it up. So I don't think it'll work for us. But it's awesome that technology is just about to where we need it.

I'm sure they will figure it out how to make it work without Steam eventually, it is still in BETA right now which just makes it even more amazing that it is able to stream games this well even at this stage. Also you can always use Teamviewer, RealVNC, LogMein or any other remote PC control software to setup without physically having to be at both computers, not a perfect solution ofcourse but it can be userful temporarily. :)

I did have some success with splashtop streaming XCOM: Enemy Unknown to my iPad. Since everything was turn-based, it worked out perfectly :D

foxworks: I did have some success with splashtop streaming XCOM: Enemy Unknown to my iPad. Since everything was turn-based, it worked out perfectly :D
