So I was playing hack, slash, loot and I really really like it except for one thing..perma death, not really fan of that in a game, I want to be able to save the game and do some real progress not just start over and over again.

So is there any game out there like this one but where the game is not randomly generated and you can save your progress (so lets take away most of the roguelike features :P ) Oh and I already played avernum and avadon series. (right now I'm waiting for eschalon book 3 :D )

Thanks a lot :)

Not turn based, but maybe Torchlight? Or Din's Curse?

thanks for the reply but is not what I'm looking for :(
Lionheart might be worth looking into though it does get kind of boring after a while.

Sounds to me like you want a hack/slash, top-down RPG. Might be a strange suggestion, but have you tried mobile device RPGs, like Zenonia series?

Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader?

Yeah, that one. It's hack & slash with a little more adventure and questing in it. You can make alliances, help or hurt people, and you get some interesting NPCs to worth with like Cervantes and Leonardo Da Vinci who becomes almost a Deckard Cain type character for you.

Have you tried Battlepaths? It's like a turn-based rogue-like on the surface, but areas and monsters are not randomly generated, I think only items are (like in Diablo), and IIRC you can save whenever you want, or at least you can respawn if you die (like in Diablo, again). You can get it from , [url=http://www.shinyloot.com/battlepaths/]ShinyLoot or GamersGate for a couple of dollars.

The freeware games Dark Disciples and Dark Disciples 2 might be of interest to you, too.

And possibly also Natuk & Nahlakh, although I haven't tried them myself. Originally they're shareware, but it seems the author gives them away for free now. Not sure how well they run on modern systems.

You could also try Knights of the Chalice, which is still a little costly, but it has a demo you can try out. Be warned though that the demo is not very representative of the full game, which in general is much easier and less frustrating than the demo, but the demo does a good job of showing you which frustrations you can expect when the game is at its worst. :P

And of course, there's also the Ultima series here on GOG. ;)

9th Dawn (though real time)
Excelsior Phase One: Lysandia

BTW Dungeons of Dredmor lets you save the game and reload after death. Permadeath is an option chosen at the start of the game. It does have random levels though.

The first one looks good except for the art style :( it just not appealing me at all, looks like a drunk "big" guy
I will give a try to Dark Disciples, looks very promising and it's free
Tried knights of the chalice the combat dont appeal to me
Already played ultima games (most of them :P )
