ChrisSD: What games do you play when you're tired and just want to mindlessly waste some time? Any recommendations?
Depends on whether I want something to wake me up / keep me going, or something to drift into sleep to.

In case of the latter, I'm usually playing point & click adventures, due to the following features:
- no twitch-based gameplay, fights, action scenes, etc.
- usually no hectic background music
- can usually be saved anytime, no need to push through to find the next save spot
- even if I do have to replay parts later, this is usually easily done
- can be controlled with the mouse while the other arm is already in my preferred "sleep position"
GREAT THREAD!

Stars! was always great for be when I had an OS it worked on because you were never being rushed. Yes that tends to be the case with most TBS but anyone who has ever played it knows what I'm talking about. It was never a cake walk but at the same time not over stressful. I also got a kick out of it because when I was really really tired I'd get loopy and start to give all my ships and planets totally screwed up names like Planet Enema.
Thanks. I used to have Diablo 2 round here somewhere but I can only see the original. I must get them as difital downloads sometime. FTL is a game I can enjoy when tired but I know I'll suck at it if I can't concentrate properly. Games like civilization are beyond me when I'm in this state unless (as andysheets said) I started playing when I was more awake Similarly I really enjoy point and click adventure games when I'm more awake but I get really frustrated with them when I'm too tired.

They're the only games mentioned so far that I have. I'll take a look see at the ones I don't but it's probably best I don't be spending too much while in this state (although a good Android game might be worth a punt).

cmdr_flashheart: The sleeping game works well for me; the UI is really inconsistent for it, though, so experiences may differ.
I'm too tired to play the sleeping game.

I know that feeling well. When I'm in zombie mode, there's one special game that I keep coming back to occasionally and that's Transport Tycoon (Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe nowadays).
The sound of 'cha-ching' whenever any vehicle rolls in some dough is extremely soothing. It's even more soothing than finding some 'phat loot' in Diablo because in Transport Tycoon, you can't die. Only your passengers, but it's no big deal once you have an empire to cushion any and all losses.

Of all the managerial sims out there, I find Transport Tycoon the best suited for when you're tired.
Stuff like Constructor, Caesar etc is too stressful for that state of mind.
Just don't build any train signals in TT when you're tired unless you can do that in your sleep. Train signals are a branch of science, an art in its own right.
Civ IV~ I have fallen asleep playing this game more than any other. and the wonderful thing is, the music and great sounds just keep going while you blink and nod... blink and nod... and then start awake suddenly to find... yes! It's a turn-based game, so your keyboard may have shorted out from drool, but your game is still safe.

Cheers!
Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
What, don`t look at me like that! ;p

Erm, if not that, Spelunky, Banished or some random point & click.

Too tired to fall asleep? Damn, that's some predicament :p

Okay, I have a category of steam games which I play for short bursts of gaming because these games can allow that sort of gameplay. Here's what I have in it, currently: http://imgur.com/v91bCYf
left 4 dead 2 or cs 1.6 :)
I tend to do casual games when I'm too tired to really concentrate on the more-complex games (like The Void... ^_^; )

SO, my usual go-to's:

Cave Quest (match-3) - I've played this through so many times you wouldn't believe it. haha
Chocolatier 2 and 3 (strategy) - Despite the simple-looking graphics, they're INCREDIBLY addictive!
Faerie Solitaire and/or Fairway Solitaire (this one you can get FREE here. You have to have Big Fish's game manager, but it can be bypassed easily enough :D

My non-casual go-to's are:

Civilization II and/or Warlock:Master of the Arcane (strategy)
Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection (SIM) - Would love to see more votes on this one! It's truly excellent!
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is my preferred time waster when I'm tired. The tiles version even has mouse support.

Licurg: Majesty . It's really relaxing, but without feeling like a casual game .
Seems to be exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.
Simple, but not totally 'dumbed down'.
Downloading now. :)
Thanks.
I like a freeware puzzle game called Complements. The difficulty is very customizable, so you can make it challenging or very easy and relaxing.

Osmos is also a nice relaxing game.
Some thing simple like SteamWorld Dig should fit the bill.

Or perhaps Trine.

The new Goat Simulator looks like a possible candidate. Oh, wait, you said "tired". I thought you said "drunk". Never mind!
Fist Puncher tm....
