Hi. I love GOG and have many games for it. (That was a somewhat awkwardly phrased intro.)

I also love the design of the place. However, I was looking at the homepage/start area (just your basic GOG.com) and I noticed that it doesn't really say anything about being DRM-free. (Unless I'm completely mistaken, then... I would feel like a fool).

Because what if a newcomer heard about this site, or got linked to it, and saw the front page. They'd be like, Ooh, Fallout and Baldur's Gate and stuff! That's not even a bad price... but for that price, I may as well get it on Steam (or something), perhaps thinking it's just another site where you have to get a client and use it to play the game.

I'm not trying to say I'm right or anything, but it's just something to talk about. Just an idea. I don't even want to say suggestion really, because that would mean you need suggestions, which you really don't, because it's a very well done website.

Sorry if I'm ruffling feathers, stirring pots (of trouble?) or other such things.
If you're not seeing it then I'd think that would be a valid point anyway, don't you? It's all about the end user's experience, not what the designers intended.

But yeah, GOG just aren't pushing their key selling points anymore. I don't know why that is, but there you go.
I don't know where you get off suggesting that GOG is failing to properly advertise their products. My feathers are shooting off of my body like bottle rockets.

Assuming that I'm kidding, what the hell is with all of the apologetic topics lately? There's a topic somewhere that's like "This is a dumb question but..." ...that is just too far. I have to say something because of that topic. I don't like the trend, there's classy and then there's mumbling apologies for everything you do before you slip in a wee bit of content. The latter is obnoxious and uncalled for.

I have to say, this topic does seem like satire fighting for my cause, so let's get on with the actual discussion. And I'm sorry for everything I'm about to say, and for the above.

You're absolutely right. The site's internal marketing is in need of some help. It's also become pretty damn stagnant feature-wise, both on the community end and the account management end, which is disappointing. But I guess that's how GOG rolls, they like to roll up everything into one big release and market that. Kind of goes against the current agile development trends in the software development industry, but maybe the web game is a different game altogether.
The "About Us" section would do a pretty neat job of driving the point home... if it weren't tucked away behind a link at the bottom-left of each page -_-'.
Maybe this should be the starting page for anyone who isn't logged in ? Or at least for a first-time visitor (as verified by cookies or something...) ?
It's probably because it's a very well known website now and the DRM-free thing is almost associated with GOG.com in particular.

But I believe there are still people out there who wouldn't know. I've told some of my friends about it and they hadn't heard of it before.

Edit: That's a pretty good idea, actually.

Or we could go with an obnoxious logo that possibly features an explosion and bright red or yellow letters stating: "DRM FREEEEEE!"

I wouldn't go so far as to call GOG a "very well known website". It is definitely well known in certain circles (anti-DRM people, classic gaming fans, etc.), but in general, it's still the worst kept secret on the internet. More people know about things like the Android Market (which launched around the same time as GOG) than know about GOG and what it offers.
Ahhh. Ok. I'm stupid.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Don't you mean best kept secret? Because if it wasn't kept well, people would know about it.

No, I mean worst, as in it seems to still be a secret even though no one is trying to keep it a secret.
I'm gonna kick you over some rep. Thanks for helping.

Edit: I meant that about the person who told me that they advertised it if you weren't logged in and
2. I don't know how to rep. Is it "rate post"?

Yes, but it doesn't noticeably increase rep. You need a lot of people to rate up a post or several different posts to increase rep even 1 point.
