sloganvirst: It still needs some sort of visual thing to work doesn't it? I've never used Youtube for uploading before, as you can tell. :)
The mic I am using is only a cheap one anyway, from a rockband kit and then using the logitek drivers with Audacity
Pick some sort of picture from the interwebs or create just an image with a text that says your song's title or something. I had the same problem, so I just started looking for good pics on DeviantArt and ask the artists whether I could use their image in a YT upload. Then open any video editing program like Windows Movie Maker, put your audio in there and let the image be visible as long as the song plays or something. And as for the recording quality - on YT there's lots of musicians including rather popular ones who use absolute low-end hardware, even webcams, to record their performance. So that's not really an issue.
Edit: Oh yeah, also Newgrounds has a decent audio portal. You don't need a pic or video to upload your stuff there. It takes some luck to get many plays there, occasionally people will downrate stuff for no reason (which is a little disappointing at first) but there's always a chance that many people will hear your stuff there. When uploading audio there you agree to a creative commons license but that's a good thing in my experience. Thanks to this a decent amount of my tracks can be heard in YT videos.
