So I was on the train into work this morning and I got thinking about competition gaming and the up coming Olympics. I have always enjoying the thrill of multi-player gaming, the LAN party death matches and the classic RTS skirmishes.

I never really got into the new big competion games (TF2, SC2...)
So I was thinking it would be cool to set up a collection of mini tournaments of GoGs in the style of the Olympics. So we could get a chance to finally play some of the classics on mp (I know I have a list of old games I never got to play mp because of lack of internet and LAN when I was growing up)

Some games which would be cool to do:

UT (the classic again never really had a chance to play in mp when it came out, could do team matches and classic death matches)

the other classic fps, Painkiller Duke, Nukem , XIII....

Total Annihilation (On modern pcs we should be able to have some crazyly large battles)

I'm not sure if we could do speed runs of some of the single player games or if that would just be dull

People's thoughts on whether this is something we could put together and if people would actually be interested in this kind of thing.
I would be in...

Shooters: UT
RTS: ?
Turn-Based: Heroes of Might and Magic?
Racing: ?

any other ideas? :)
I'd love a Red Alert 2-a-thon ... come to Yuriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
I'm not that good at competitive multiplayer gaming, always preferred co-op. But I'd be in for the fun of it.
I quite liked Original War multiplayer, though I do not believe that many people would want to play it.

Never tried its multiplayer. Hmmm, could be fun.
EDIT: How many players can play on one map? 2, 3 or more?

Yeah, me too!
We should definitely do this. Make some use out of the multiplayer features for some of these old games. I'm in for sure.
I'm interested.
There are a lot of great multiplayer games here. This made me remember how I always wanted to try that Giants Citizen Kabuto multiplayer but couldn't.

I always loved cooperative multi-player games as well, but nowadays I lack both the game and the players :/
I still remember , [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KVqsvnt-qo]Midnight Resistance and The Settlers... :(

Just looked it up. According to GoG: 'Although the game successfully establishes a network connection and launches a multiplayer game, after some time the connection breaks, which results in shutting down the network game. This problem is caused by the game itself, and is considered by the developer as a “known issue”, without a solution yet.'
When it comes to multiplayer I'm good at fighting games and not much else.
What do people think of a mini tournament of UT (original) to see if we can actually set something like this up?

Sadly I'm not around this weekend, but we can have one next week (or you guys can just do it this weekend I won't be offended :) )

Button-mashing is usually my style as well. So you're up for a match of Guilty Gear X2 (if it includes multiplayer at all)?
Id may be in depending on the game.
FIFA !!!!!!!!!!!!! and I'm in !
