I read someone complaining in the Panzer General II forum about the lack of music in the game, and I suppose this is due to the CD audio not being included with the downloads. And even if it is included as mp3 files, they're not going to play during the game unless you burn them to a CD. That would of course be a solution to the problem, but part of the charm with GoG downloads is that you don't have to put a CD into your drive to play. Also, games with CD music tend to freeze for a second or so when a track is repeated or a new one begins.
Shouldn't there be something that could be done to solve this problem in a better way? Couldn't dosbox be modified to count a folder on your hard drive with audio files as proper CD tracks, for example? And some similar CD emulation program could be made to run with the shortcut commands that start Windows games.
I know this would take some time for programmers to achieve, but even though I hardly know squat about programming, my gut feeling tells me that the code only would have to be written twice, once for all DOS games and once for all Windows games.
What say you?
