langurmonkey: Hardcore fans? I don't know why you are okay with someone being a douchebag... It seems what Tony Montana said in the movie Scarface is true. "You know what capitalism is? Getting fucked!"
Coelocanth: Sorry, but I actually don't think it's douchebags like this that's what's wrong with the world. I think it's people that can't control their own spending impulses and then want to blame the other guy because he charged them too much. It's why we have millions of people running around pissing and moaning about how much debt they're in and how they can't understand why they owe so much, as they go and buy yet another luxury item that they can't actually afford. Seriously, if you've got the money for this and feel like spending that much, there's no issue. If you don't have the money for this and spend it anyway, then you're an idiot and have no one to blame but yourself.

Actually greed is what made our current civilization, that's what drives capitalism and has done more to our material world (but in essense, has influenced and invested in other non-material areas as well too) for the last 100 years than any other methods did before the last 100,000 years. I saw it on a decent documentary, pity I don't remember the source.
And no, you can raise items far above their market value without being a douchebag. The seller is probably thinking he could find a collector that can afford it, I doubt he's sitting at home thinking "I hope I can trick some poor schmuck into buying this with his credit card..hehhehe"

HereForTheBeer: Put me on the "If you disagree with me, then obviously you are a insanely greedy sack of shit with no morals" list.
LOL at overblown outrage for something nobody is forced to, or needs to, buy.
langurmonkey: It's not overblown outrage. Your kind of attitude is why so many fucked up things are happening nowadays. LOL at overblown outrage for something nobody is forced to, or needs to, buy.
Don't like the price? Find an alternative - several were linked.
langurmonkey: Hardcore fans? I don't know why you are okay with someone being a douchebag... It seems what Tony Montana said in the movie Scarface is true. "You know what capitalism is? Getting fucked!"
Here's the problem with that: for that kind of money, only someone who really, REALLY wants that package is going to pay that amount; the rest will happily do without the wooden box and whatever tchotchkes come with it. And if they want it that much, then more power to the seller who puts their kids through college, supports their sick parents, funds their retirement, or gives to charity with some of the proceeds of the sale. Wealth redistribution at its voluntary finest. So one only "gets fucked" in this case by buying that particular product. And then the fucking is accepted with total willingness and a credit card number.

Sorry, but hardcore fan or not it's still a luxury item. Pretty much anything you get into collecting due to be a fan (hardcore or just casual) is a luxury item.
People without self control is another reason why the world is messed up. But what I'm saying is, such an item, should be affordable and not $1400. No matter what you say, raising the price by over a thousand on such an item is something only a douchebag would do. And of course, douchebags are one of the reasons why this world is so fucked up. If you think insane and immoral greed didn't do anything to this world, then I'm going to think you are one who profits in this world by being greedy in such a way. I doubt you are such a person though because you don't seem the type.
I didn't say 'insane and immoral' greed didn't do anything to this world. Be cautious about the conclusions you draw. ;)Nirth

Really? I thought they did. It probably depends on who you ask, what the means and the end entail.
Your argument is flawed. A person is free to buy anything they so see fit. Unless the seller uses devious manipulation or illegal marketing I still don't see the original problem.
langurmonkey: It is obviously your morals are very different from mine so I guess arguing with each other some more, is pointless.
We kind of need different opinions to have a discussion otherwise you would never have created the thread. Either the world would be by your definition a good place and this thread wouldn't have been needed or you would have just ignored the problem. langurmonkey: You will be singing a different tune when someone is putting their kids through college with the money they got by fucking YOU.
Isn't there a fancy logical fallacy when someone is using emotions as a tactic to get your argument on a higher ground? Your argument is flawed. A person is free to buy anything they so see fit. Unless the seller uses devious manipulation or illegal marketing I still don't see the original problem.

Is happiness a luxury? Maybe you are some ex elite military guy who can be happy living in the woods, with food, shelter and water but that is not happiness for most people.People without self control is another reason why the world is messed up. Nice edit.
I could go into a long and boring explanation of what it costs to run even a simple business and then provide a little insight into the supply-and-demand pricing of limited-availability products, of which I deal in (within a very specific niche unrelated to entertainment) as part of my business.
But I won't.
Start your own business buying and selling things and/or providing a service, and you'll eventually understand that it has nothing to do with either greed or morality, or douchebaggery. And you'll learn that the occasional big-ticket sale like this gives you breathing room to support those things that reflect your personal moralities.
And I sincerely do hope that someone is putting their kids into college or tech school with money they earned in part by providing a product or service that I want. You call it fucking. I call it commerce, and helping a family earn a living. <shrug>

Don't talk to me like you are some business expert know it all and I'm some idiot that just came off a boat or something. I wasn't born yesterday. There is a difference between making a profit and price gouging. Yeah, again, no surprise, you call this kind of fucking "commerce" or "big ticket sale". You obviously support this kind of behavior because you yourself are probably a douchebag business man who fucks people over. Anyway, why you wasting time here arguing with me while there are plenty of people to rip off in name of your business, in the name of providing yourself some "breathing room". Time is money.I could go into a long and boring explanation of what it costs to run even a simple business and then provide a little insight into the supply-and-demand pricing of limited-availability products, of which I deal in (within a very specific niche unrelated to entertainment) as part of my business.

LOL at the name-calling: is this an example of the morals that we should be emulating?
But yeah, running my own service and parts business for 6 years gives me some expertise in these things. Not chain store-level expertise, mind you, but certainly some Mom and Pop-type knowledge.
Make whatever assumptions you want but at least have a look at what it takes, and what it costs, to run a business before you arbitrarily label people as immoral and greedy simply because their experienced-based viewpoints differ from your own views.

LOL, who told you it is immoral to call someone something? We obviously don't agree on what is moral and what is immoral. PS
I do know what it takes to run a business. And nobody has to jack up the price of something by $1000 just because it is rare and desirable in order to run a business...
