GameRager: Too bad...it is an awesome game with more interaction and less blah than AC1.
avatar
lowyhong: More interaction you say? Explain yourself sir.
It has hunting side quests, bandits can attack you sometimes while traveling between towns, and it has plenty of areas to explore. The game itself isn't bad, I enjoyed it both on my Xbox and PSP, it's just that it's nothing special. There ARE a few nice missions, but everything else is either mundane and repetitive or passable.

Not as mundane as the areas between towns in AC though.

Surprised so many people on here seem to not care much for GUN.

It is a pretty typical western movie in game format, but it was developed by Raven Software, so... if you know gaming history you know that it's got some fun elements.

For its time, it brought several new things to the table, none of which I can remember now, only that at the time I didn't remember seeing that stuff before. The world is small, but open.

It's worth $10 in my opinion. I wouldn't pay more than that unless you're a Raven Software fan and want to flesh out your collection. It goes on sale almost every other week, so no reason to buy it off ebay unless you're region locked for GUN like you seem to be for so many other titles.

Ultimately, if you take it for what it is, a western tps (of which there were basically none when it came out) you'll love it. Yes, it has shortcomings, and it is a very short game, but it's almost twice as long as Modern Warfare (COD 4) so... really it's up to you.

Personally, I paid $20 or $30 for the game back in 2006 and didn't regret a single penny.

I was looking to get this game too actually. Is there any difference between the full console and PSP versions? I'd prefer it portable but I don't want to miss on any big features.

PSP has a bit extra but its not as good as the PC or 360 version IMO

Do you just mean the PC is better graphically or easier to control? I suppose it might be hard with the one analog stick. I've never gotten a shooter on the PSP yet but I've heard most of them feature terrible controls.

controlling I prefer the 360 to PC and PSP, but i prefer the look on the PC. Xpadder should solve that though

To be honest, I actually enjoyed it more on the PSP (WHOA! Is that possible?). It adds multiplayer (Good luck, it's adhoc...that rhymed...), a few new weapons and missions, and pretty much the same presentation on the console version. I think you should give a try.
I like GUN. A bit short, yes. And I wished I could properly save anytime anywhere. But once I got used to the game save system, it did not matter much. I had fun with the bounty, hunting, gambling, while not so much with the pony express.
Okay, this is my boiled down opinion of GUN.

It is basically Red Dead Redemption "Lite" it has customization, but not very deep customization. The story is really good but not mind blowing. Gun play is really good, very visceral and realistic feeling. There is some wonky moments in story telling and story, but nothing game breaking. You could do a LOT worse for 12 bucks.

lowyhong: Hi I'm trying to make up my mind whether to buy a copy of GUN via eBay. It looks really good, but I'd like to see what GOGers think of it first before taking the plunge. The general consensus seems to be that it's a solid title, but its score is in the 70s range on Mobygames and Gamerankings. Also, is it an FPS or TPS? Screenshots on Mobygames show that it's both.

(auction ends in 4 hours 30 mins btw)
Grab Red Dead Redemption
Personally gun was a great game.

I rented it when it first came out and completed it that weekend (unheard of for me as I take my time and explore). Considered it laughabled that they wanted $90 AUD when it came out. Found it pre-owned for $10 a few years later, bought it and enjoyed my playthrough. $10 AUD it is worthwhile, anything much more is a tad steep I think. It is fun, just... small.
