The fix posted by the OP should work in XP as well.

I've looked through the options but I cannot find "DirectXTrimTextureFormats" under compatibility fixes, and after searching the list over I don't see anything similar either.

More specifically see the attached image. Can anyone think of anything obvious I might be missing, here.

When I get to the "Create new Application Fix" screen (Windows 7 64-bit), there's 366 possible fixes compared to the 221 shown in the screen you posted...

That's a possibility. If so, that's pretty unfortunate since changing OS isn't really a "solution".

hi all. I got it workingh on windows 7 and playing single player with some graffix errors but its good to see the old dog rise to its feet again. Is any one aware of any servers that are live? I remember a guy called SolidSnake was making his own server years ago but nothing came of it. Any news anyone ?

I do have some exciting news:
There are servers still running and I have a working servers.dat file for anyone interested in playing some goold ole fashioned HG2 or hanging in the Lobby.

I have just bought a Heavy Gear II CD from Amazon.com

I have installed the Compatibility Administrator 32-bit and everything is all setup

For some reason I cannot run the game.

Every time I run the game it says :-

Heavy Gear II.exe has stopped working

And a window pop up saying :-

Your Game Terminiated Abruptly. Report problem to Activision ?
CRC: D525-250C

Does anyone know how to bypass this ?

Are you trying to run Instant Action in single player or trying to set the controls? If so, you will see that error message alot.
I have found though that if you open and launch the game in the Standard user analyzer
in the MACT Instant action works 100%. in fact everything works fine except for the controls configuration - works about 40% of the time.

Muiltiplayer works just fine just by running the HG2.exe and running it in Win98/Me complatibility mode, But you will need a servers.dat file to see any servers.
Found here -http://www.localditch.com/heavygear/hgii/downloads.html. unzip the servers.dat file in the HG2 directory and you should see 3 servers and then you can go into the Lobby. It's a pretty empty place but I am trying to get some people to play Multi player, that's the best action.

hi, the game does not start even if I did everything that was suggested to do with the toolkit of microsoft. When I start the game crashes and gives me the message crc 724f-f44a.

You might need to get a fixed SHELL.DLL file.
I'm not sure if linking to one would be allowed, so Google:

Done, but nothing...
I can see the first screen and choose one of the option, but then i see black screen and I can hear when the pointer go up a button. After I quit with Alt+F4 and I see sor a second the menu screen...
maybe i need a grafic fix or to install Directx 6.1?
