Hello everyone. I just joined Gog today it was my birthday on Valentines day ^_^.
Anyway I seen this site before and it had some of the older games I really wanted
to buy but couldn't find anywhere. So i just happened to get some extra money and figured
I'd give this web site a shot. I prefer to buy the game disc myself, I don't know if I'm the only one
who just likes to buy a physical copy of my games but there is a chance you can scratch them or lose them.
I did like the fact you can burn the games on a disc and back them up. So i guess a question
I'd like to ask does anyway know how make a game launch if you burn them onto a disc. You know
a self set up pop up window when you place the disc in the drive. I hope it turns out well.

The installers should run fine from CD by manually going to the drive but if you really want them to run automatically when you put them in the drive, you need to make them 'autorun' with an autorun.inf file
probably the best thing to do would be to copy an autorun.inf from another CD game you have and edit it with notepad - it should be really short, probably the only thing you need to change is the name of the .exe its pointing too
I assume you're just anal about these things and aren't trying to make the CD-Rs you plan to flog down the market seem that bit more professional and user friendly are you? O_o

SirPrimalForm has already posted the thing about autorun.inf. In simple terms, what that essentially means is that you need to include a text file called autorun.inf in the same directory as the game installer, and then put this in it:

[autorun]
open=[filename of installer.exe]

Obviously replace the words in brackets with whatever the filename of the game is.

A couple of other tips:

* There's a thread here that is chock-a-block with unofficial DVD inlays that you can print out and use in Amaray cases.
* Because most of the installers are so big, some of them can take a while to run off CD or DVD, so your DVD drive will thrash it out a bit before the installer actually runs.
* There's a few complexities involved in installers that are too big for DVDs regarding the order that the installer reads the chunks. I'll explain that should the need arise.

I just want it to look like if you bought from a store ^_^
and its nice to place the game disc in and it opens up for you.
If you ever got the "Gamefest" disc from wal mart a while back I have it. It has 14 games on 2 discs
you place the game in and it list all the games in auto run pop up just click install and it install its then click
run and it play the game. I have a blu ray burner and it can hold alot of games so would be nice to have in
one window just like this game has on it. Was thinking of place my own picture of the 3dfx logo in the back
or maybe a dragon or both both.

Ah, you see, the autorun.inf will only run one installer, you wouldn't be able to bring up a list of games
Although, you should be able to point the Autorun to a webpage you've slapped together with hyperlinks to the installers
IIRC the GOG installers are all called 'Setup.exe' but you can get around that by using subfolders or simply renaming them

They are not. They are called setup_game_name_2.#.#.#.exe, so you can have them all in the same place.

Not the same directory as the installer, the root of the disc. That may coincidentally be the same place as the installer, but the important bit is the autorun.inf being in the root.

That's true. I was actually referring to the directory that you organise the contents of the disc in and eventually create an image out of, but yes, the autorun.inf does need to be in the root of the CD or DVD.

Do you think the OP would have gotten this much immediate help anywhere else? There is almost a fight brewing over who is being more helpful. XD
