TCMU2009: I ran the scans in safe mode. Kapersky found two files I knew were bad, but it wouldn't let me do anything cause I had no internet connection in safe mode. Malwarebytes somehow found nothing, even though I've run it every day since infection and it's constantly finding files. I used the hijackthis, but have no idea what to do now.

I don't remember for sure, but I think when I took my laptop in three years ago to remove problems it was around $80 at least.

GastonArg: put scan and save log file in hijack, what kaspersky told you when you try to delete those files?
kapersky gave me an option to "fix", but it required an internet connection which I didn't have in Safe mode. I didn't even have an option to connect to our wi-fi.

How do post the log file? It keeps saying Wrong Format.

How do I save the log file in Hijack? I never saw an option to do so.
only a fix option?not delete?

Put the option

"Do a system scan and save a logfile" then the logfile save it and upload it (it will be a txt file )

nadenitza: Jesus Christ, 100 bucks for a reformat? Damn, that's insane... find your windows disk buddy, or find a .iso backup on the web and burn in on some CD... 100 bucks, this guys know how to skin :)

That's a crime even for 80$. It's just WAY to much of a price to ask for such trivial task. I think 10 bucks is more like it. Sure many may not know how to do it but doesn't mean they need to skin everyone... it's very easy tho. What i would advise you to do is.

1. Find your windows disk or if you can't:
1a. Download and burn a bootable .iso backup copy of your windows version with your CD-DVD/RW (assuming you have one) using - basic tutorial [url=http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/topic/11194-how-to-create-a-windows-vista-7-8-installation-disc-bootable-using-imgburn/] basic tutorial here
2. Take a look at some basic re-formating tutorial on the web so you can get a general idea how it's done, it's really nothing special. Like this one for example http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/17615781.aspx

Just know that if you gonna reformat everything on your Desktop, My documents and System Drive will be deleted. Your non-system drive won't be.

I never saw a Delete option in Kapersky. And the logfile is saved as a .txt file, but it won't let me attach it in a message here.

I've identified most of the foreign files that I can't delete if that helps. One is named "Mega Browse", one is named "Optimizer Pro", and a bunch of the ads on the screen are from HQvideopro. The files in Mega Browse and Optimizer Pro are the Dll files, I was able to delete the others.

true..formatting a HD is very easy to accomplish. Simply type diskmgmt.msc in the search dialog. Thats the only tool you need. Don't actually format till you have a Windows disk to reinstall, and have saved all your important files first however to a different HD or to a CD or DVD.

yes formatting is very easy until you encounter a problem but you dont have your pc to find the solution so you are stuck... that is why i never recommend to format a hdd to a person that doesnt have the enough knowledge to do it.

True If you don't know about partitions and file systems it can be a bit confusing. and actually there is a lot of work involved after you format ..a lot of downloading..updating all your drivers..Reupdating Windows itself. And if you are not familiar with it. And if you don't know the process..You can run into problems.

YellowAries: Or you could take the laptop to a professional computer place... I am pretty sure they would reformat your laptop for you, if you really want to be safe and sure about removing the problem. Just make sure you give them your Windows disc(s) if you do, so they can re-install Windows.

Me, personally, I would wipe the drive... but then, I don't even use virus scanners because I know how to avoid viruses properly =Þ (but that's me)
share some of your tips on avoiding viruses, will help some folks in future

One will never learn if one never tries. That's how i basically learned everything i know to this day about computers - with trials and errors, and lot's of googleing :P

i guess he's talking about freezing software or something like ghost, where you basically do a total system back up (witch takes a good chunk of space) and if a problem appears you can go back like it never happened

Thank you for your help everyone! A system restore seems to have fixed everything, at least for now.

Well, it kind of comes with experience... The only real tips I can give is "Don't go to websites you don't trust or aren't well known." and "Don't download any random stuff, unless you know what it is."

Oh, and don't click Ads.
