Thanks to nmillar I won a $5.99 game of my choice. When the contest was running I thought I'd get Gabriel Knight 2, just because the Jane Jensen Kickstarter got me to try to install the CD version and I had trouble getting it to run, but on second thought it's not a very good reason. All I need is to get DOSBox to run well, so why not get a game I don't already own?

Some games I'm thinking of:

- One of the other Gabriel Knight games. In terms of aesthetics I don't like either that much, but I like the low res of better than the 3D of [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/gabriel_knight_3_blood_of_the_sacred_blood_of_the_damned]GK3.
- Little Big Adventure 2
- Dark Fall 2
- Torin's Passage

What would you suggest? Feel free to suggest others along these lines.

One thing I'd like to add is that I strongly prefer a game to run in a window, as opposed to full screen, so if any of these games don't support it, let me know.

Definitely go with Little Big Adventure 2, incredible game, and extremely underrated.

One of the best game ever, In my humble opinion.

I would suggest Torin's Passage, because I'm also eyeing it and it is always good to have somebody other do the first step ;-P

LBA2 is a fine choice, but beware of the platform nature of the game. The camera angles in the full 3D world needs some getting used to, but other than that it's a fine example of a truly memorable story.

I don't know how, and if, it works in a window though.

It does work with window 7 atleast, as I've played and finished the game 2 years ago.

Yes, the game plays lovely under Win7. But it has a small sound bug, and the music is quite loud and doesn't seem to want to stay quieter if you set is as such under options. At least that was the case when it came out on GOG.

Does it use DOSBox? If so, then it should run it a window and otherwise be configurable.

"LBA" 1 or 2 would be my choice or "Broken Sword" 1 or 2. ^_^

Torin's Passage is the only one of those I've played, and I recommend it. The graphics are good by contemporary standards, the voice acting is good by game standards, the dialogue is entertaining and witty and the puzzles are interesting, though not particularly difficult. That's the one word of warning I'd give, it's not one of the more challenging games around (and it's also quite short, though for $5.99 you shouldn't feel short-changed), as it was intended to for children, or more precisely for parents to play together with their children (the humour reflects this, with a few jokes that would go over children's heads).

I recommend Sacrifice if you've never played it before. It's not an adventure game, but i'm sure you'll love it:)

That's actually a pretty good recommendation. Graphics and sound do matter to me, and since I don't have a lot of time to play, a low difficulty level is actually helpful.

Still, I think I narrowed it down to GK1 vs. LBA2. GK1 is supposed to be a very good game, and having pledged to the Jane Jensen Kickstarter I figure I need to play it. LBA2 looks good and a rather unique game which will be interesting to experience. Also I'm more likely to buy GK1 than LBA2, and I think it's usually better to get a gift for something you want but would not buy yourself.

GK 1. It was actually the very first game I bought here, because I missed it "back then". It really is a "must play" title if you are into adventures.

LBA 2 is also a great game, but it is also, at least from my memory, a lot harder and has more frustrating sections. GK 1 only has one of those.

Thanks, Simon. A frustrating game is definitely off putting.

One thing I thought of just now is that if Jane Jensen's Mystery Game X will turn out to be a GK1 remake then I'll be sorry I got this old version.
