Ok so I've got some vague memories of an oldish demo I played a while back, but I can't remember the title nor many specific details - but here goes for what I do recall and lets see if anyone can work out what game it is. For the record I don't think the game ever hit the really big popular status of many, a smaller title to be certain.

So the facts I do recall:

1) Typical RTS type game - harvesting, base building and battle

2) Fantasy setting

3) I think it was following the 3 factions approach (similar to many RTS post Starcraft), but there might have been more

4) From what I recall of resources there were two, only one remains in my mind though and that is jewels harvested from watery sites

5) The demo mission was a nature based army; featuring a variety of units, most notable being wolf mounted warriors and a wolf mounted hero warrior.

6) Graphics were 2D based and colourful

For now that is all I can recall sadly. Anyone care to have a guess?

Ahh that is a good site and archive, but sadly the game isn't listed there
Wasn't something like Warlords: Battlecry?
It's not really old and it didn't have just three factions, but is it Heroes of Annihilated Empires?

Alien Nations fits everything, except the part with the demo mission.
Not really old though.

Nope not any of those three sadly - Graphics are more 2d presentation than Heroes of Annihilated Empires, though the colour and cartoony appearance they use is somewhat similar (even if rendered in 3d).

edit - like Alien Nations 2 in graphics, but a tiny bit more artistic flare from what I recall
