Hello i am planning on getting some games in the near future. but i would really prefer if i could back up my games to a disc based media. I would like to know if that is possible and if so what is the best way of going about it.
That's easily possible. Just burn the install files to disc and off you go. Make sure you include any .bin files that came with the installer as well - that only applies to games over 2GB in size.
You mean GOG games?
Sure, you are encouraged to backup your games.
I am pretty sure your DVD burner came with some free software to burn DVDs. Just use it to backup the game setup files.
Or you can just use the built in burner in Windows, drag and drop files to DVD and burn it.
It is possible and I do it. What I do is download everything (games & extras) to a single directory somewhere, fire up your CDR/DVDR software of choice (I like InfraRecorder), move the contents of your directory over and burn it. Games come as stand-alone executables so no need to worry about a client or anything. Games over 2GB will come in multiple files, so you might want to keep a subdirectory for that.
You just burn the install files to a DVD-R.

That's it! Nothing else is required. Except maybe the multiplayer CD keys, but you can just save those on a text file and stick it in the disc too.

All my GOG games are backed up. :)
Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it!
If you're using Windows 7 (dunno if this is available on Vista), put in a blank DVD, select the files, then right click -> send to -> your DVD drive. No need to install additional stuff.
external harddrives these days are much cheaper and save a lot of work.
suppose you have every gog game thats over 200 gb . try burning that on dvds.

I agree. That's basically how I back-up all my important files (that of course means I have two identical copies on two different drives).

Haha, at first I thought you wanted to make a point that if he has all gog games, then he should try to burn them on the DVDs. Only at a second glance did I realise that that last part was a sarcastic remark. My confused face must have been epic.
