Making an announcement about the lack of an event seems a little silly. We already get enough guff for our reputation for announcing that we will be having an announcement later. :P
If the announcement is something you feel is sufficient enough to tease & get the community excited then by all means word it along the lines of " Sorry there's no weekend promo this weekend but we have something special coming next week. Weekend Promos will start again from next weekend" If it's not something that the majority will be excited about then just keep it to yourselves until the day and then post it (minor publishers with only a few games for instance would be a nice surprise to find on release day rather than building it up & disappointing people who thought it was something bigger. Like the Team 17 situation; that was handled well.)
GOG.com is in a rather unique position amongst digital games stores in that GoG comes across as much a fan site as it does a digital store and a lot of people purchase here over other sites because gog.com has personality rather than being another generic DD site. You can pat yourselves on the back for maintaining that image so far.
