HomerSimpson: Just about any fighting game (i.e. Street Fighter). I love the genre, can handle the first few rounds. But when it comes time for the serious smack to be laid down, I am the smackee.
Heh, you liked that word, eh?

As a corollary have you ever gotten stuck on a game, stopped playing for months, possibly years, then came back to it only to breeze through the part giving you trouble?

I've had that happen a few times and while I can't think of specific examples it makes me feel like a dumbass.
Yeah, the update of NFS Underground. I hate it when the speed gets so ridiculous it becomes not fun anymore because one little hesitation or twitch and bam, crash city.

sanscript: The racing part in Mafia. My GOGness, I spent days/weeks on that one. I had to resort to a trainer to get past it. (been awhile since i tried the last time though.)
Good lord, the first level is harder than this one.......

......and most of the other levels in the game.

My entry has got to be Doom 2. I'm seriously stuck on level 16 on Ultra-Violence.

Same here. I just don't get fighting games, even though I love the idea - sometimes I can't even beat the easiest difficulty level. It's kind of embarrassing.

I suck at city-builders, RTS and fighting games.

I can't get past the big 6th fighter in Virtua Fighter 2 for the Saturn. I just can't. He always takes away half of my character's health just by grabbing him and i still haven't figured out how to dodge it.

I was pretty good at MK3 back when i was a kid. I'm also kind of decent at Soul Calibur.

Desperados 2, I got stuck on the mini-gun stage, or the circled wagons stage or what ever you want to call it. I liked the game up to that point. Then I cheated my way through the rest of the game. :(

Batman: The Video Game(NES), Game Genied to beat the Joker at the end, It took like five-ten minutes with unlimited lives and ammo, how the heck are you supposed to beat that without cheating.

Well those are a couple that come to mind.
I suck at some many city-builders, but it depends on the size of the city.

I have never been very successful with the massively populated cities in SimCity, but I never have trouble with the small and comfy towns in Tropico.

Any Fighting game, TBS games and some RTS.

Anyway I love TBS and RTS games.

Spinorial: When I was first playing Rogue Squadron, I got stuck on the fourth mission, "Defection at Corellia". And I mean stuck! It was the first time that you need to deal with an AT-AT walker, and I wasn't really getting the leg-roping mechanism.
I remember this. *shudder*

AdamR: Every RTS game.

I love the shit out of RTS games. But I just plain suck at them.
This^

I have to settle for love of the idea of RTS. I installed Company of Heroes again a couple of months ago and got my arse kicked on easy with a game guide. It took 3 installs since purchase to actually finish the game due to rage uninstalls.

Honourable mention also goes to the latest iteration of Street Fighter IV. Played it at a friends house and also got my arse handed to me on easy within 4 fights.
Any game that has anything to do with economics. Ports of call, Tropico, Gangsters... I basically get bankrupted at title screen.

(Typing this, I realise that it sounds weird with my location being set to "greece". To avoid any culturalist inference, I should specify that I'm supposed to be swiss.)

LOL yeah, the Swiss are supposed to be pretty good with money...
I guess it depends - if there is a difficulty level - do I have to be playing on the highest difficulty level available? If so, well I guess most of my games. If not, very few of my games. :P

The only game I can remember that I didn't finish because I simply couldn't was Super Meat Boy, I only played a single level of the last world (flower wordl? or something like that), and I immediately realized there was no way I was going to be able to finish that.

I got never past the first two or three missions in Inferno: The Odyssey Continues.
