crazy_dave: I agree it would be nice if we knew GOG's official numbers (at least percentages) for each country, but I applaud the work here. Although some of these may be spoof accounts ... after all DPRK (North Korea) is on here which seems implausible, perhaps not impossible, but implausible.
Countries are not determined by IPs, you simply select them in your profile; I also seriously doubt there are two people from the Vatican here. There will always be some bad data, but most of them are likely to be legit.

Yeah I know, I was just amused that DPRK was even on the list of where people said they were. I figure most are probably legit too.

<high five>
fun stuff.
Interesting, there are a whole lot more posters than I expected. I've seen, what? 4 or 5 other people from the Netherlands, but apparently there are 285?!

It would be interesting to also filter out those with only a few posts, might give a more faithful impression of `the community', since a lot of people post just a few times for help with a problem they have.
There is no censorship here, you can get all the violent versions!

A little more data because I like to play around with the code I make.

Instead per user, one could make a per post - statistics. The results are:

395154 posts in total
from 145 unique countries
United States with 136657 posts (34.6%)
United Kingdom with 46895 posts (11.9%)

Ukraine with 137 posts (0.0%)
Costa Rica with 134 posts (0.0%)
Western Sahara with 132 posts (0.0%)
Liechtenstein with 127 posts (0.0%)

By comparing with the previous results one can see that US or Germany community members are a little bit less chatty than UK / Canada / Australia / Norway on a per user basis.

However you can also search for the posters with the highest count of posts. Here is the list without names:

xxx from Australia with 11073 posts
xxx from Canada with 8915 posts
xxx from United Kingdom with 8423 posts
xxx from United States with 7265 posts
xxx from Denmark with 4537 posts
xxx from Canada with 4240 posts
xxx from United States with 4000 posts
xxx from Poland with 3989 posts
xxx from Singapore with 3951 posts
xxx from Sweden with 3919 posts
xxx from Japan with 3908 posts
xxx from United States with 3898 posts
xxx from United States with 3709 posts
xxx from United States with 3706 posts
xxx from Ireland with 3681 posts
xxx from United Kingdom with 3146 posts
xxx from United States with 2944 posts
xxx from Portugal with 2908 posts
xxx from Hungary with 2631 posts
xxx from Macedonia with 2585 posts

So, the 20 top posters roughly produce 20% of all posts. Of course this is only for fun and anyway says nothing about the length or quality or entertainment value of these posts. ;)

However, what I did is keeping a zip file of the downloaded html only snapshot so just in case, some monks mess terminally with GOG, we would have a backup. Compression ratio is awesome 98%.

Very impressive!

You've got only 2 names wrong and from the 18 names that are right 15 are also in the right place. :)))

Just recently I discovered that there is even more information contained in the posts: the posting date and the community member registration date. Just for fun, I reran the analysis and produced the charts that come first to mind using the snapshot of the GOG forum that was beginning of march:

@OP

You wish to know the real reason behind the multinational make-up of the GOG forums? It's simple:

I walked in and opened the door for my fellow Poles. Somehow some sneaksy Germans and their even sneaksier version, the Finns, walked in. Well once you get some Germans and Finns in here they're going to let some Norwegians, Danes, and even Swedes into the place!!! By God, who ordered Swedish!?!?! And don't even get me started on the Austrians and Belgians! Seriously, Belgians! I did not know such a nationality existed and there's two versions of them: French-speaking and Dutch-speaking ones!

I like they way you think... I did a quick and dirty graph of 'Unique active posters' ... should it be taken as a health chart of GoG Forums?
