It's almost a pleasure/pain thing. It gets slightly annoying after a while, like being scratched over and over by a wire coathanger, but the end result is worth any discomfort.

edit: as for nature, to me the only thing that can change it is our inner dialogue - but then again, "nature" is broad, so I guess it all depends upon which aspects. Positive thinking is highly underrated.

I had a nose ring once and chemo involved a lot of needles but never had a tattoo so I can't really eve imagine if it would be good or bad. I'm getting too old to find out though I will say I had a friend in high school who use to give tats by himself with a pen & needle and it certainly seemed to be a lot more painful than getting one in a parlor.
