Hello,
I've recently purchased a group of games through GOG, one of them being the Police Quest Series by Sierra. I am very familiar with Sierra's games, having played all of them in years past. I have some experience using D-fend Reloaded, and Dosbox. For standalone Sierra games (and other games for that matter) that support the MT-32, as it's pretty simple to mount the drive through Dosbox, then access that particular games' setup-install file, then tell it to use the MT-32.
When I installed these games yesterday, I was unable to locate any type of setup-install file in PQ1. (haven't tried the rest yet) The only executable files in that dir were:
exists.com
Godir.com
Popdir.com
Pushdir.com
Scidhuv.exe (This one would start the game)
and What.exe
The music default for this game is obviously Soundblaster, but ithis game also supports the MT-32. I know this, as one of the files in the PQ1 dir was mt32.drv.
There has to be SOME WAY to access some sort of config file SOMEWHERE to get this game (and others) to recognize the presence of the MT-32.
I have some experience with similar products sold by a vendor on EBAY, who uses dosbox routines to get these old games running on today's systems. He includes a dosbox config file in the game directory that will allow the user to configure a number of things to include sound, video, types of joysticks, etc.
I could find no such file in this case. Does anyone know how to do this, or can somebody at least point me in the right direction please?
Thanks in Advance!
****UPDATE*****
First, thanks to those that replied. I was directed to edit the RESOURCE.CONF files using Notepad, and change the sound driver from the default of ADL.DRV to MT32.DRV. Works great now! One thing to beware of though...... In some of these games there are separate lines in the CONF file for AUDIO and SOUND. Never having messed around in there before, I changed the AUDIO driver and not the SOUND, which didn't work. Then trying to fix it back up, I got the MT32 to work, but in the process, I had inadvertently disabled the AUDIO, which meant I didn't get some of the sound effects that I should have.
I'm all better now though.
Thanks again!
