So my place of work has just been taken over from a different company. These people need to save money and have made the decision that my colleague and myself are not worth the money. Despite our perfect track record for over 5 years, we are the most expendable members of staff.

I have exactly 3 months left. Any game recommendations to cheer me up or to stop me from going on a genocidal rampage?
Very sorry to hear this :(

I usually replay old favorites - video comfort food - like an old RPG, a Zelda or Mario game, casual games, or else start a relaxing adventure (desktop vacation style) like Weekend in Capri or a Nancy Drew.

What genres do you prefer?

It`s harsh. I've been laid off before and truth be told, I never fully recovered from it. It's a gigantic kick in the ego.

You have my sympathy.

Just remember that mutual employer-employee loyalty is very uncommon.

Honor and order dictates you owe your employer the time they pay you for and you should represent their interest during that time to the best of your ability, but avoid doing any more than that. In particular, avoid unpaid overtime like the plague.

In many professions, I find the "permanent" employer-employee contract to be highly hypocritical. I would find it more honest if both parties agreed to a semi-yearly renewable contract.

Afterall, let's call a quickie for what it is and not mistake it for what it isn't.

Ugh, so sorry to hear that :-( Maybe you need a copy of Viscera Cleanup Detail: Santa's Rampage? Dunno but it seemed somewhat amusing in a kind of sick, twisted kind of way... lemme know if it appeals and I'll PM you.

In the meanwhile, spend every single second you can trying to line up a new job. As I'm wont to say, "The best revenge is a life lived well." ;-D
Sorry to hear about the impending job loss. I always found classic SNES platformers or old-school rpgs to be quite good at relieving any stress in my life.
Really sorry to hear that... I hate it when companies do that to save a few extra bucks...

As for games... Alpha Centrui? get lost for a few days in that? or maybe Roller Coaster Tycoon?
I would imagine the Postal series will help you with that homicidal rampage. You need to vent and that's the best way to do it, in my opinion. Go on a safe make-believe homicidal rampage.

+1 for this recommendation.
Oh dear, I am really sorry to hear this man. It really sucks losing a job, I have been sort of where you are and I wish you all the best; I recommend playing/watching any of the following:

Play:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
Left 4 Dead 1 or 2
Lucas Arts Adventure games
Go Go Ackman
Clock Tower
Splatterhouse 1-4
Binding of Isaac
Doom 1, or 2
Castlevania
Super Metroid
Organ Trail
Wasteland
Fallout 1 or 2
Super Punch Out
Discworld series

Watch:
Firefly
Babylon 5
Farscape
Dead & Breakfast (hilarious movie)
Dead/Alive
Robocop (the original)
Robocop 2
Big Man Japan
The Good, The Bad, The Weird
Warehouse 13
Indiana Jones trilogy
Back to the Future trilogy
Blackadder
Red Dwarf
Discworld films

I hope you find something of use in this list that can help, and I hope you find a new job as soon as possible.

There's a game called Zombies. I think your coworkers all become undead somehow, making it okay for you to wade through the office with an assortment of nasty weapons. It doesn't appeal to me, so I can't really vouch for it. But the soundtrack is wicked nifty. So I'll link to that.

Sorry to hear the bad news but now you are free to pursue a career in porn or maybe become a gigolo. :P

If you don't have it already go for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series for a good escape from reality.

In this situation, I clearly advice against sitting at home playing games. Instead, go traveling!* This puts you in the driving seat and it's a great feeling to know that the people who are responsible for your situation are rotting away in their stinky offices while you're off adventuring in a far away country.
It worked very well for me, imho it's the best way to take away all the anger and channel all your energy into something positive that you will fondly remember for the rest of your life.

*unless you have kids to support and have to stay at home for job hunting

Postal clearly. Or something like Saints Row.

Go on a genocidal rampage! Just do it digitally.
Really sorry to hear that, mate:(
Two things: stay away of the pubs and get out of the house. Forget the PC. Go out, walk in a park with a book or two, visit a museum, do some sport related activities - whatever it takes to not be alone in the house. Even if you are not alone, staying indoors will only accentuate your foul mood.
