So, I'm looking for a desktop game that would be fun for both me and my girl and possibly also our two roommates for 4 players fun - and we're sort of tired of Monopoly. Oh, and if you happen to know about some kind of good website dedicated to them with user ratings and such, gimme link.
So, to sum it up: I want game playable and fun for both 2 and more players. And I want a desktop game, we won't play Warcraft and HoMaM forever...

I'd recommend Cluedo, Scrabble or Risk.

You mean actual board games? I guess Diplomacy and stuff like that.
Board Game Geek is filled with this stuff but it's mostly about those intense games you play in a basement with other stereotypical nerds, but some good stuff can be found.

Surprisingly brilliant underdog is Red November. Dwarves on a drowning submarine. 'Nuff said. Oh, and it usually comes pretty cheap. And is highly portable.

On the thread subject, I'd recommend Clue as well. It's simple, but it's fun. Also, if you're into trivia, then Trivial Pursuit is also a very fun game. Both games go up to 6 players.

Seconding Space Hulk. But only if you're up for learning the rules first. It ain't Snakes and Ladders.

Oh yes, there are lots of interesting card games as well. Unfortunately, they tend to be very regional, making it difficult to talk about them "across borders", so to speak.

One of my favorite card games is Mille Bornes - I am sure there is a digital version just not sure where to get it at the moment.

Oh man, trying to figure out some people's squiggles is stressful sometimes. And when they can't guess yours when it's CLEAR AS DAY you're drawing "Independence" or some abstract concept like that, it's way worse.
True story: The guy who had to draw something for the opposing team picked up a card with the word he had to draw. We had a look (doesn't really matter if we did or not, because it's not our round) and the word was "thumbtack". Piece of cake, we didn't even bother to flip the little plastic sand clock thing, they'd guess it in an instant. Just an horizontal oval and a thin "V" and you're done, right?
The guy draws a large horizontal rectangle. Then a slightly smaller concentric one inside it. Then several other smaller vertical rectangles inside of the first two and he finishes it with a small dot on the corner of one of the smaller rectangles.
He'd drawn a large bulletin board with all the bulletins pinned on the board and the little dot was the thumbtack and he kept pointing at it with the pencil.
Instant classic fail. :)
