So yesterday I got bored and recored some guitar and created this song. I did all the guitar, the drums were done by Garageband. So let me know what you think, critic it, but only constructive lol. As well, this demo of the song is already out of date, I've fixed some volume issues as well as other tweaks. So let me know what you think please!

Nice, the very beginning reminded me a bit of Nirvana. At 0:56 you're starting to play insertions, like little scales, with the lead guitar. You could try adding another note dropping back to a lower tone at the end of each scale. I'm also curious how it would sound with the later lead guitar part sped up.
All things considered it aint bad.
Could still use some more volume tweaking - and definately more OOMPH with the guitar (perhaps another layer recorded to give it a thicker sound?).
Yeah, I've lowered the drums already and I'm planning on re-recording the main chordal guitar.

It sounds awesome as it is, but I think your changes will make it really shine. Nice work, post the other version too, if you like.
I'm curious about it... / Ok. Not bad at all. Am I right that a Bass is missing? If yes, the Bass is missing ;)
Then I would make the rhythm guitar(s) louder - as Sachys wrote there is missing some Oomph - and give the solo guitar more room, while use a bit reverb on it and maybe put it on 2 channels for more broadness

Edit: V2 is on a good way I'd say. Try if a 4 takes long drums-only intro (without the snare but with the very first tone of the guitar at the start) would sound good to you :)
I like the part with 2 guitars from 0.16 on

Ok, here's an updated version, still some things I want to change, most changes have just been sound/volume stuff... let me know!

The mix is a bit muddy and some parts are quieter than they need to be and I would say that the song drags just a tiny bit, it would sound better (to me) if it was just a little more uptempo. I'm not in love with some of the amp sounds either, the guitars as a whole seem to have a little weight but no edge, but some slight amp adjustments can help change that. The song itself has a good foundation, and the drums remind me of Eric Carr, which is a good thing.
Thanks for sharing!

I have to say, the guitars sound like they are not going, at the very least, thru a cabinet. I may be wrong on this, but I got the impression that you are only using a distortion pedal for the "background" guitars: if you recorded them straight into the computer, you need to use both a virtual amp and cabinet. Cabinets act as a filter for the sound, making the sound A LOT less "harsh" when using distortion.

An example:

With cabinets: https://soundcloud.com/alejandro-tiscornia/metal-dead-encore-1st-trailer/s-JhVJ6

Without them: https://soundcloud.com/alejandro-tiscornia/mde-1st-trailer-no-cabinets/s-W0HE9

Hope this helps! There are a lot of good freeware amps and cabs... if you need some, let me know and I'll post a couple of links.

Best of luck with the project!

Yeah, my set up (at least at college) is my BC Rich Masterpiece Bich, Pocket Medal Muff than to record I got straight into my mac. The amp I have out here is a little practice amp, at home I have a blackstar.

I havn't fooled around with cab's yet, been planning on it for this song just havn't had the time yet. I"m thinking tomorrow I'm re-recording almost all the guitars. This was jsut a rush job.

Thanks for all the tips thus far.

Could you please post these links? I would like to try working with those cabs. My distorted guitars don't sound much good, now I know what's wrong and how to change that. Thanks for the sound examples so far! :)

Glad to be of help! As I've said, when you are recording straight into the computer, you still need an amp an a cabinet to get the true guitar sound. Some free plug-ins are:

Amplitube Custom Shop: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitubecs/ It has pedals, amps and cabinets, if I'm not mistaken; there is also a bigger paid version. It's a good starting point because everything is self-contained.

LePou Plugins: http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com.ar/ Most of the plug-ins are virtual amps, and they are pretty good. There is also a plug-in for loading impulse/responses taken from cabinets (I don't use it; I think it's name is "LeCab").

Ignite Amps: http://www.igniteamps.com/ Great virtual amps and pedals. The bass guitar amp is one of my favorites, I use it all the time.

TSE Audio has some great free pedal effects: http://www.tseaudio.com/home

RedWirez (http://redwirez.com/) has a free Marshall 1960 cabinet: http://redwirez.com/free1960g12m25s.jsp (this are impulse/responses, to be loaded into something like "LeCab"). I can recommend the full (paid) suite, too. They are all excellent.

And the most popular free I/R cabinet collection is Guitarhack's: http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2631 (I know it's not the creator's own webpage, but couldn't find a better link, sorry!)

Hope this helps. And thanks for listening to my tracks!
The other people have helped you out with tips about how to clean up sound, etc.

I'm going to keep it simple. When you play lead, play it like you mean it. Don't be afraid to play lead - it's the one type of guitar playing where you can REALLY get your emotions across.

I thought it overall was a good test track for you, other than I'd turn the fuzz down on the rhythm guitars just a hair and place some reverb or phaser on the lead, or even both.

Hope this helps :)
