Icewind Dale 2 is infinitely more approachable by the average human. As long as you use RPG common sense when making your party (you will probably need a melee fighter, a healer, a lock-picker and someone who casts fireball) and don't go overboard with subraces (most of whom aren't worth the level adjustment anyways) you will do just fine. My only word of warning is that Paladins have a nasty habit of refusing quest rewards, which makes them a lot less attractive as a party diplomat (a Bard would be a better choice for that role).

I love Temple of Elemental Evil, but that game is crazy. You have no business touching that game until you have a comprehensive understanding of how D&D 3.5 works.

I'm not sure what your point is. He is asking advice on this thread if he should play IWD 2 or TOEE. The fact that he finished the first game is irrelevant to my advice.

As others have stated, both are very hard and complicated games so perhaps go with something easier first. But if I had to choose between the two, then go with IWD2. But both are also very good games I need to say.

htown1980: Hello,

I am hoping that some people who have played either or both of the above games could give me some advice on which I should try next.

I had a look at IWD2 but the character creation but it looks very complicated. I can handle choosing fighter, mage, thief, cleric, ranger, pally, but there are so many options, as well as feats, etc. I had a look at some guides and they are all about power gaming and I don't really understand them. I'm a little worried that I will make some team that just fails miserably.

I don't know much about TOEE other than its buggy and that I need to install the Circle of Eight patches..

So my question is, which one would you recommend I try next?
Icewind Dale 2. The character creation in the game looks very complicated but it's not. It's really easy. You don't have to create perfect characters. The game is not that hard. You can also choose parties made by the developers for people who want to skip the character creation process but those parties suck.

Go for IWD2. TOEE is harder than IWD2.

If you are familiar with BG, then IWD2 is not that different.
