Hoarding can get as addictive as crack. Probably not as desperate, but loads of money can get wasted. Rational thinking is your only escape. As usual, you don't realise you're over the edge until the edge thing happens.

I think I might be a bit too emotionally invested in this game collecting, but ultimately, I could loose money in much more useless ways. Depends on your spending money aka disposable income.

No worse than throwing cash away on strippers or at the bar, probably cheaper than both of the above as well. Hoarding digital items is also preferable in several ways to hoarding physical goods.

Exactly. Though digital hoarding can get embarrassing in a different way, If you hoarded stuff, you'd sooner or later get buried under it. That's a clear sign that you need to get your act together. Digital storage doesn't really have this "problem", and spending's just as easy if not easier.
GOG games are good but, just put your foot down and stop your fingers!

Yeah, but your visitors won't notice your hoard or digital goods (even if they're snooping your comp, they're looking for porn or embarrassing photos/love letters/poetry) whereas everyone notices the piles of your hoarded garbage;)

OldFatGuy: Judging from most of the responses though, there aren't as many like me that purchase games when they're a good deal so that you can play them whenever the mood strikes. Believe it or not, I'll likely play every one of them at some point, though I may not play every one to completion as that will depend on how much I like the game.
That's sums it up for me.

I like having a pile of spare games left to play and then pick what I'll play next.

OldFatGuy: Anyway, thanks for the responses. Maybe I DO have a problem..... Oh noooooeeeeeesssss! But I love to play computer games!!!! Playing Disciples 1 Gold right now!!!
Good game. Finished it a couple of months back.

All factions were fun to play, except the dwarves which I found a bit plain with a lot of emphasis on brute strength and little else (kinda short on cool special units).

The second game is even better though so you'll definitely want to finish the first one before you move on to the second one because once you've played the sequel, you probably won't want to come back to the original :P.

And given that the story of the sequel picks up where the original left off, it's nice to finish the original.

well... :)

collecting games that you won't play, but they just seem interesting, has become a phenomenon lately among gamers:

just look at all the discounts, special editions, remakes, humble bundles... they're cheap, they contain a lot of potential fun, but how many of those games did you even download? or if you did, did you just install them to check them out and didn't touch them for months after that?

me, I personally like to have a various selection of games and genres installed on my computer, some days I like to shoot things, other times I like to read tons of dialogs... so it's ok to have a couple of them. but you really need to think hard about every purchase, or at least half a day to be truly sure you can't (don't need to) spend the money elsewhere.

Yeah, every now and then I get in a mood, click on My Account, and I'm playing in a classic great old game. Last weekend I was playing Disciples 1 and thought about adding to it, and just clicked on Sid Meir's Alpha Centaure, and OMG, what a great game!!! So, I'm playing those two and think, let's try another, and this time I pick Lords of the Realm, and wow, another very fun game.

And then late at night when I have trouble sleeping is when I'll put up one of the pinball games I have and just play that little to no thinking game to pass the time till I can sleep.

Played Gothic 1 to completion. And man they it fun, especially with the mod I found that put the band playing the music on the stage back in there along with some other great mods. The one thing I am a little worried about is the number of RPG's I've purchased, as they usually take a lot of time. I'll still likely at least try every one, but I'm sure I won't finish every one.

But in the last week or I've gotten Fallout 1 AND Fallout 2 for a grand total cost for both of $2.99. Hard not to take advantage of that. I've got both on discs, and have played 1 but never finished it and I know I will finish that one. And now I know I won't have to worry about getting the darn thing to run on my newer machine or finding the patches which might be difficult these days. $2.99 for two all time classics??? That was AWESOME.

This weekend I'm going to try out Legend of Grimrock. I pre-ordered it but didn't download it yet. Wanted to wait and read some reviews to give me an idea of what to expect. I think I'll like it a lot.

Oh well, maybe I am an addict. But the addiction is playing them, which leads to purchasing them. I dunno, that explanation might not fly too well either LOL. Ok, I'm an addict. And I don't care. LOL
