I hope you weren't taking the "talk to everyone" as a criticism, I was only pointing it out as evidence of my neuroticism:)

It sounds like you've trained way more battlers than me, I will defer to your experience. I do know about the Everstone stuff, etc. My only point is, it is a ton of work, even if you use all the tricks, just to willy-nilly try whatever. It's also intimidating to people who don't typically competitive battle, they'll typically just have one or two ringers. In fact, my ringers don't actually have the best of everything, but it's Metagross and Staraptor, which are so over-powered compared to nearly anything aside from Battle Frontier I don't worry about it.

Also, I try to make sure I have a couple Pokemon that put up a good show of a fight but who will lose if I decide they need to. I know, it's a dirty trick, but it's better than crushing a nine year old over and over again (sometimes she will legitimately win, I just don't want her to have any long losing streaks).

From the other thread:

It looks like you can teach Flareon Flame Charge via TM in Gen V. Between that and Giga-Impact a level 100 Flareon might not be so weak. Of course there's oodles of Special Fire attacks he can learn in Gen V. I'm not sure EV training a Flareon with high SpAtk IVs would ever put him on par with other Fire types. I guess you could just teach him Return to get out of dealing with Water types (since there's no way to get Grass Knot or an electric attack on him).

I do see that Eevee can learn Stored Power via breeding in Gen V, it's Special but it looks like you could amp it really high with the right build. I'll let someone clever figure out if that's possible though. Still a strong Psychic attack from a Flareon would be rather unexpected.

Hmm, I missed Gigadrain on the list, I did spot Megadrain, though. That makes Petilil a far stronger Plant type than I'd originally thought.

Will they revise movesets during the same generation or do we have to wait until Gen VI? Perhaps they could add some good moves that Flareon could get via Move Trainer?

Stored Power is Psychic type power 20xY where Y is the number of stat boosts a Pokemon has (up to a max power if 840, or something stupid). I'm thinking being able to Baton Pass to something with Stored Power will be in some competitive team set ups.

EDIT: I may be misreading how it works, though.

Man, Emboar rocks, he's so heavy that Fire Crush move (or whatever it's called) can instantly knock out anything small, even water types.

Is it me or are the wild pokemon a bit stronger in this game?

(I seem to find this game a little harder than Diamond/Pearl/Platinum which I just sailed through)

I do love the frequent rival battles also.
Keeps you wary and a bit on the edge. (Though normally I'm more than powerful enough to deal with them)

I have really only ever put a significant amount of time into Heart Gold but it does seem more challenging right from the beginning. Part of that i think is the experience points falling away when your own poke is at a higher level than the opponent. You can't seem to get anywhere grinding in this game, which i actually miss. Spending a lunch break leveling a poke in HG was something i enjoyed.

Oh no you can still level up pretty quickly. In fact I'm sure gamefreak has designed the game specifically to allow for the grind to stay there.

Audino hunting is mentioned pretty early on, (a npc talks about shaking grass and how it gives a lot of experience), and grinding Audino kills seems to take about the same time (since you have to run around outside the grass alot for the grass to actually shake).

But even if you do grind a few levels extra, the game still seems to keep up with you.
(Which I like, and don't like at the same time)

EDIT: Also I love the fact that the game rewards exploration more.
Almost every town feels like a Goldenrod (Pretty big, quite a lot to do), whereas many towns in the previous gen, have been virtually a gym and a house or two.

The game experience changes are kind of rough, but if you get the Exp. Share from Battle Company in Castelia City the shared experience is actually boosted for the lowbie Pokemon quite a bit. After the fifth gym badge you start getting pretty strong wild Pokemon that are on evolution 2, which also gives way more Exp. I got a Tympole from level 14 to 36 (third evolution) in just halfway through the caves after Mistralton City (the one with the planes). This took quite a bit less than an hour. The game just hands you a Lucky Egg, too, which you can hand to whichever Pokemon will be doing your fighting for you. I remember really trying to get one of these off a Chancy in Pearl and failing.

In SoulSilver I used to use a ringer Pokemon (like an Absol with Night Slash and Psycho Cut or something) to wade through the final four to grind up lowbie Pokemon really quickly. I'm hoping we have something similar later on.

I got Emboar to level 38 really early, nothing could keep up with him and I was running into level 19 wild Pokemon regardless. Now maybe my party's average level was low enough that I didn't get anything heavier thrown at me by the game, dunno, but only fighting your rivals ever seems to be any kind of challenge.

I think the gym leaders in this game are pushovers compared to normal. With all the dual type Pokemon you'd think they could come up with some more challenging gyms.

tomdelada: I believe that once you've defeated the Elite Four and got the National Pokedex Pokemon from the previous generations will start appearing in the wild, though I can't personally confirm this as I'm not at that point yet. And, of course, Nintendo can release pretty much any Pokemon they like over Mystery Gift or the Dream World
Confirmed, it looks like the persons residing in Black City/White Forest have a lot to do with what you can catch as well as the season.

Obviously he cheated and used an Action Replay just like Lance did in HG/SS ;) I know exactly what you mean though, I pretty much blew the E4 out of the water (Bacon the Emboar, you were amazing!) then got my ass neatly handed to me right afterwards.

Oh, I just remembered I still have a Celebii If you want it. And I can breed Tepig/Snivy/Oshawott too if anyone's interested. Just don't come asking for specific natures or IV spreads, since I haven't the faintest idea how that stuff works ;)

On a semi-related note has anyone else been having trouble connecting to the GTS? Sometimes it lets e connect and browse before kicking me off, other times it just refuse to make the connection at all. The error code it gives seems to indicate it's a server-side issue, so I guess I'm just looking for confirmation.

I would love a Celebeii, yes. How exactly do we trade it? Do you just need a trainer id? We can discuss if you sign up for GOGPM (http://gogpm.barefoot-monkey.org.za/) or if it's just a trainer id I assume it's not problem to post it here, right?

I can breed Tepig, as well. I need a Oshawott for sure, I think I can Ditto breed my daughter's Snivy (she doesn't have the patience to reload for a female).

I also have females for both the fossil Pokemon, Archen and the turtle one.

As well, I'm pretty sure I can Ditto breed Cryogonal, his spawn rate is 1%, it took around 2.5 hours to get him to spawn, so if anyone wants an egg instead of that pain, let me know (nothing else in game seems hard to get save the wandering legendary, as usual, they always like to run).

Heh, a Wynaut. I actually caught one of these in Black yesterday and tried using it for the first time. They're tricky lil blighters.
