It's a marketing strategy.

And good for people with a lot friends.

First you buy the game BTA in the first week.

Then you wait until the announce the "happy hour"
Now buy the game again (as a gift and BTA again) and recieve not one, not twooo, not threeeee but FOUR copies of the game.
Sounds like teleshopping to me.

If you want 5 of us (here at GOG) could band together and wait for such an event in order to get a decent discount but the average price hasn't been that bad so far as to require such a strategy.
It's actually buy 2 - get 5 kinda deal.
