Boneless, not spineless!

Octodad: Dadliest Catch, a heart-touching story of a Nautical-American struggling to be the best parent and husband dry land has ever seen while keeping his true nature from his loved ones, is available 40% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.99 for the next 24 hours!

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about daily life. Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family. In this original, imaginative indie title, you'll be challenged to live through a full day in Octodad's life, and even venture outside the house. There's tons of physics toys to play with. Jointed objects, springs, slippery surfaces, and more! Combine that with visual style inspired by the American 1950's aesthetic (but with futuristic twists), and what you get is an appealing bundle of slapstick fun you will never forget.

Wrap oll of your available arms around Octodad: Dadliest Catch on GOG.com, for only $8.99. The 40% off Gem Promo offer lasts until Thursday, May 1, at 9:59AM GMT.
I thought it was the other way around. The family were obviously not human just faking it.

Hmm weird game, probably not my cup of tea. I can't see it being that fun after a short period of time.
I just downloaded and tried out the original free version. I don't know how to describe it; somehow "bizarre" doesn't seem like a strong enough word. XD

I'm very intrigued at this point but I don't think $9.00 intrigued especially with the upcoming release and the the usual weekend stuff.

I will say this, if the original is anything like this version the premise is brilliant and carries itself off well despite how it might look on paper.

tinyE: I'm torn on this one. On one tentacle it looks like a nice bit of easy going fun. On the other tentacle I'm sure I'm going to be having nightmares from those screen shots alone. :P
Fixed that for you ;)

Very funny. :P
What you don't get is how appropriate the comment is. The mouse literally becomes the tentacle. You click on it to take control of the 'arms' and then move the mouse to move the 'arm' using other buttons to use your suckers and interact. Walking is the real trip. Two of your 8 tentacles are designated as a left and right 'leg'. The left mouse button controls the left, the right the right, so you have to get use to using them in tandem to move around. The thing is you are essentially a piece of jelly so try to imagine having "Mr Fantastic" as a marionette. You may try to just move your left leg an inch but accidentally stretch it clear over to the other side of the screen. :P

xxxIndyxxx: I just don't get this game... I really don't. Just like goat simulator. I don't get it ;)
Sadly, I must admit I would get goat simulator if it gets a nice discount in the future.... :S

Although it may not be so funny for you because it's very important what he is saying. Most of the time it's something like: "I'm walking! I really think I do! Or perhaps not? No, I'm not walking! Or perhaps I do?" then he also says something about the wedding: "I'm not going there! I have three suits but I won't go there in any of them!" which is pretty hilarious too ;) This video was pretty popular in Poland several years ago but as I said - it may not be funny for people who don't understand Polish.

That he never fell down is a true miracle!
His determination should be an inspiration to us all. ;-)

Actually from time to time he is shouting "Oh, Lord Jesus Christ" and "The Most Holy Mother" so perhaps it was a divine intervention. But I bet he had multi-year experience in walking in this peculiar state ;)

What is it that makes people buy this thing? I don't like it at all, and I don't see why it gets promoted everywhere. $9 is a rip-off IMO. Never been so disappointed by a promo.

Sometimes it's fun being an octopus in disguise :)
The game would certainly stir my interest slightly, if offered at a steeper discount. You know, I'll buy pretty much anything packaged by gog for Mac at 75% off. But with my backlog (see previous sentence), Octodad would likely sit on my shelf for at least a few months, so I'll hold off for a future sale.

Sadly I don't speak any Slavic languages (but you should hear my pronunciation!), so I can't read the subtitles, but having endured a flight over the Alps from Frankfurt to Vienna and being tossed around like a rag doll, I have to assume that video is the result of the infamous Central European winds! :)

Edit: Geography: OK, OK, "over" should obviously read "near", but the flight crew *did* assure us the turbulence was due to updrafts from the mountain range.

Charon121: This game is a one-trick pony, making players laugh by deliberately making the controls difficult and putting the protagonist in situations that require quite bit of dexterity. The result is often hilarious. Everything, from clumsy coffee making to knocking down objects from shelves while shopping, is guaranteed to make you at least smile.
Have you ever played the original game that this was based off of? The controls are probably 100 times worse, mostly that you have to click to raise a foot, move your foot, then let go and swap feet, then do a control to swap to your hands, ect, overall very very slow. Saw my girlfriend play the game until until halfway through the secret base level below the house, and the difficulty was just too hard to such crappy controls. Watching in comparison this game (Dadliest Catch) is much better, although still likely annoying.
In 2009, I noticed that I was limping slightly on his right leg. While it was hardly noticeble at first, it quickly developed into a true Quasimodo gait and soon I was unable to walk. Areas of my body became numb and my right hand became gradually weaker until it was completely paralysed. The reason for this was that my immune system was attacking my nervous system: The hand was paralyzed because the nerve connection between it and my brain had been sabotaged. In other words, I had multiple sclerosis.

I was treated with Prednisol at the neurological clinic. I gradually gained the ability to open and close my hand, and could greet people without them feeling as if the had been handed a wet dishrag. I learned to walk with the support of a walking frame. Luckily, I had the 'lite' version of multiple sclerosis, where you can recover from an attack.
When I had become able to walk on my own, I was allowed out of hospital and back home one weekend. But the instant I was home, I got my second attack. This time it was my left hand and left leg. I had to literally crawl up the stairs to my apartment.

Back at neurological I got myself some Prednisol and chemotherapy. I managed once again to regain the use of my body ... and there has been no new attacks so far, thanks to a special diet, really intense drugs and luck. Awesome!

But while playing Octodad, I couldn't help but think of the game as some sort of handicap simulator. The gameplay is heavily funded on the lack of control the player has over Octodads body. Some of the absurd missions are very easy to compare to my own experiences, like when I had to get the mobile charger that was just out of reach from the hospital bed, or the previously mentioned crawling-up-the-stairs mission.

An institution for mentally handicapped people had the principle that their residents should have as "normal" a life as possible. So each day the residents were shipped to some other place, which was supposed to be like they went to work, just like normal folks. The crazy thing was that the residents cognitive function were very much akin to that of a few month old baby - they were unable to dress themself, and had no way of even understanding the concept of "employment". The well-meaning attemps to make the residents have a "normal" life is a bit similar to Octodads grotesque attemps to fit in.

Also notice that Octodads woes is a result of the environment, which simply isn't designed to fit his physical abilities. He is a perfectly healthy octopus, but when he puts his eight tentacles into a suit and tries to mow the lawn, trouble ensures.

Nice input, thank you for that.

About the game, I am quite convinced this game can help people keep their eye/hands coordination in shape.
