Völgarr the Überbeard to friends.

Volgarr the Viking, a fantastic action-oriented indie platformer true to the spirit of the classics of the genre, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.79 for the next 24 hours!

Volgarr the Viking is a game quite in tone with how we imagine Vikings. Badass, straight to the point, ready for epic deeds, with not much time for stories until there's fighting and looting to be done. Stories are better left for long winter nights, and enjoyed while sipping mead by the hearthfire. Right here, right now--it is the time for action. This game offers some actual classic hardcore arcade action, made even more enjoyable with support for Dinput and Xinput controllers. There's seven worlds to explore across 30 maps, all bristling with high quality handcrafted pixel animation. On your way, you'll run into over 30 unique traps and enemies, including huge bosses that take up the entire screen!

Put on some heavy metal through your speakers and get yourself in the mood for an old-school platforming challenge with Volgarr the Viking, for only $4.79, on GOG.com. The Indie Gem Promo lasts until Thor's Day, February 27, at 10:59AM GMT.
Personally I found this one of the most well designed platformers of all time. It has been incredibly well crafted IMO.

PaterAlf: I know that there isn't a regional price on this game yet, but I wanted to express that because of there recent policy I'm probably not willing to buy indie games here any longer. And that I think that their suggestion to wait for a better deal when you don't like their pricing is very poor (it should be in the interest of a shop to give their customers always the best offer, so that they buy immediately).

No offense to the the developers of this game was intended. Sorry if I was unclear about that before.
Well since we haven't seen regional pricing and exactly how it will work on GoG, maybe we shouldn't judge it before it's had a chance to test. Regional pricing afterall according to GoG will be comparable to the USD amount, unlike the normal stipulation of regional pricing where it isn't even trying to be close to the same amount.
For this price it was a-must-buy :) <3
Someone needs to inform GOG that platforming is an action genre. So here I am.

Anyways, this game looks pretty interesting. The screenshots sort of remind me of Castlevania.

$4.79 is a good deal, but less so for me because of the weak CAD vs. the USD. Maybe regional pricing will fix that?
Ah.. I'm sold, it reminded me of my love for Castlevania, Symphony of the Night by watching the Trailer, what with underwater levels and massive bosses..

I wanted this game from day of release, but always something prevented me from buyin it. Now mine, at last.
I bought this game on release day and I don't regret any penny spent on it.

Really good game, a bit hard (for modern standards), but very well crafted and totally fair.

IAmSinistar: Finally played this just the other night. It's well done, with elements reminiscent of Altered Beast and Shadow Of The Beast. But ultimately too hard for me, so I moved on.
How far did you get? I would stick with it until you finish the first level if you haven't. For such a hard game it does have a lot of chests in the levels. I lost track of how many times I died before I finished level one, but nearly all of those deaths were from sloppy play. I can't say I much of a fan of the jumping mechanics in the game. I have adjusted for the most part.

I got to I guess the second section, which is inside a temple and starts with a couple lizardmen snoozing in front of you. I played it I don't know how many times, and it became clear that I couldn't screw up at all, because I basically needed the upgrades to get through certain parts intact. I got near what I thought was the level end, but it kept eluding me, so I moved on to another game.

I did like the game overall, just a little too unforgiving for me. Another way in which it resembles Shadow Of The Beast, actually.

Actually, it sounds like you are right near the end. If you do pick it up again don't immediately jump toward the boss with no shield when you first see him. ;)

Thanks, though I doubt that will save me. :)

My progress through the game was "live 10 seconds, learn what killed me, live 15 seconds, learn what killed me, etc". Interrupted of course by bad runs where I didn't even live long enough to make to my last death point. I can see how some folks would enjoy it, but too much work for not enough fun. I find that a common of many games these days, though that could just be me getting older.
It plays more like a cross between castlevania 1 - 3 and ghouls and ghosts rather than castlevania symphony of the night.
fantastic game, very hard but rewarding
