I went to sign up for an Indie Royale account today, only to find out that my email has apparently already been signed up for an account. Is it possible to just take an email and create an account with it?

Do you already have a Desura account? Because they're one and the same as Indie Royale account.

Not without you being notified somehow. It's much more likely that you've already got a Desura/ModDB/IndieDB account, which are all the same thing.
