Not sure if many people have heard of these, but one of the latest memes around the net are the videos of people from various cities around the world dancing to Pharrell Williams' "Happy" under the title "We are from X", "X is also happy". I believe it all started as a Tunisian meme as an expression to say that people's moods will not be dragged down by war, greed and corruption.

And it has put one big constant smile on my face for the past day. It's such an inspiration, knowing that despite all the shit that goes on in this world, there are things that people have in common.

Watch them - they are a true inspiration.

So I decided to create a list of all the ones I could find - sorted by country - and I would welcome any others that people discover:

Man, that's one epic fail. Those dancing soldiers are Soviets. :P
Edit: Oh, he actually mentions that in the description. Still crappy.

Most people dancing are attractive, thin and in their 20s. This is neither good nor bad; just an observation. I only watched a few of the videos, of course, so it might be a hasty generalistion :)

Well, in all fairness, it's people in their 20s that tend to be involved with these flashmob/web videos, and it's attractive people in that age that generally have the confidence needed to dance like that in public and in front of a camera.

There are older people, more corpulent people and kids in those videos, so I don't think a conscious effort was made to exclude them, but I suspect that the creators had a bit of a job to find willing participants from those age and weight groups.

Could it mean that only attractive, thin, 20 somethings are capable of experiencing happiness, then? I think you're on to something here, jamyskis! ;)

I've been attractive, thin and in their 20s for a couple of decades now. Anyway, I'm not sure why you find it surprising.

I don't have to be dancing in front of a camera to be happy ;)
Really nice set of vids.

And my two cents for the debate : Being happy makes anyone more attractive, that's "Empathy 101 : how to look sympathetic".
Bump with additions:

Nagoya, Japan
Bucharest, Romania
Kiev, Ukraine
Cotonou, Benin
Marrakech, Morocco
Gafsa, Tunisia
Vienna, Austria
Osaka, Japan
Telfaz11's Saudi Arabian cover

Amazing how much traction this has got.
