What I'm looking for is an app that checks for new versions of download content for my account.
Gog's AIR app doesn't fit the bill.

Content is rarely updated...when it is, you can usually find out through the game's forum.

Whenever there is update to something, it is either posted on the main page or on the game's page.
However, there is no app like the one you're after.
