Is there any chance of seeing the old EA\Jane's sims on GOG? I've got original copies of most their releases, but some of them are a downright pain to get to run on modern systems. I guess it comes down to whether EA needs to get the rights for the name back, yeah?
there's a new Jane's game out now (a horrible one entirely unrelated to the grand old simulations) so i guess the licence passed on to another company. shame.
man those janes games are worth it just for the amount of info and videos they packed in
I loved Jane's myself. I've resorted to IL-2 and Ubisoft's Lock-On (which is quite cheap now). They both do a very good job at simulation.

What is the name of the new game? Google just brings up a lot of info on the older games.

Advanced Strike Fighter

A review from Amazon:
The original Janes USAF was one of the best flight sims ever made. This new Advanced Strike Fighters is a boring joke of a game if you were looking for something like USAF. The control you had in USAF is completely missing from this game. The control of the aircraft is limited to when the software decides you should take control. During takeoff you can do whatever you want with the joystick and it still wont affect the plane until the moment you are automatically sent airborne. The script in the game is pre-loaded and it keeps you on a predetermined path through the whole game all the time. You must complete a level or be stuck playing it until you do. How can a game that was designed for WIN98 over 10 years ago be so much better than something made today? Horrible waste of money! DONT buy this it is garbage. Go play your old ATARI it is way more fun.

Tallima: snip
Usually I don't condone game for being console ports. But with a simulation game!

I mean, I remember sims were you had all keys on the keyboard bound twice.

Thanks for the link. I wonder why they decided to make the latest games a silly console friendly non-simulator, when the Jane's games were known for being some of the best and most faithful simulators around.

I know nothing about this new game, but I can't agree with the reviewer on this. Jane's USAF had some good graphics and a nice option to fly historical missions, but the game mechanics could have been much better without turning it into a "hardcore" simulator. I see how it can be entertaining, though.

You do realise the developer is called "Maximum Family Games"

Need I say more?

Edit: Ignore that. On doubling my research efforts from 10 seconds to 20 seconds I actually discovered the developers are "evolved games". Different name, same suck.

This new release is not comparable to the old EA/Jane's Simulations, it's not even worth calling it a simulation.
I'd like to see GOG putting some of the old Jane's gems into the catalog.
