So as some of you may know from a previous thread, I bought DoW 2 and Chaos. The problem is that the game is hardly playable. My specs are as follows:
GeForce 8600 GT
Windows XP x32 SP 3
3.50 gig DDR 3 RAM (Really, it's 4.50 Gigs of RAM, but XP caps out at 3.5)
50W power supply
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 4800+
2.51 GHz
Heres my problem: My hardware passes the recommended requirements, and auto detects medium settings. I played the demo on medium with 35-40 FPS. Now I have Chaos Rising, and I get 4 FPS on the lowest setting. So it's not a hardware problem. And I'm pretty sure my drivers are all up to date (Don't really know how to check).
The thing is, that I've seen this problem all across web forums and it hasn't been solved once. Well, people haven't really even bothered to help poor victims like us who got screwed out of 15$ because something in their Chaos Rising patch makes the game unplayable. Yes I've lowered the resolution. That helped, but barely now it runs smooth, but only when theres 5 guys on screen.
You guys are smart, what do I do? I've tried everything it seems.
I presume there's supposed to be another number in front of your power supply wattage, a 50w PSU might be the problem...
Did you have this problem before chaos rising?

Unfortunately I couldn't try the actual game before Chaos Rising, because it auto patches to Chaos Rising, even if you don't have it. But the demo worked perfectly fine. And I was playing the exact same first mission in the demo. So it isn't my hardware.
How does it play on minimum detail settings? Might need to turn everything down and turn things up one by one. I find resolution doesn't make much difference these days.
Also recent nvidia drivers included performance tweaks for chaos rising, might be worth instaling the latest one or even testing the latest beta version

Got a sound card in there?

Have you tried changing the sound settings to see if it makes a difference ? (posts 7 & 8 of this thread)

Yea I use an Xtreme sound card. I'm just updated my Nvidia driver, so I will reboot and check out the sound thing.
Thanks for the help guys. I finally fixed it. I don't know what did it, but I updated my Nvidia driver and changed the audio around. :)
