Kotick is an evil genius. This time he wants to add subscription fees to the Call of Duty franchise. Sadly, his plan might actually work.

Don't care. Not gonna pay.
Kotick can kiss my ass. Besides it's every publishers dream to have a WoW but the fact is 9 out of 10 MMO's die within 6 months of release. Even big names like LOTR, Warhammer and Star Trek have failed to achieve anywhere near the market penetration of WoW.
Kotick added that this kind of service is "hopefully" coming, and that he thinks "audiences are clamoring for it."

He has totally gone mad.

mad as in just mad or as in mad with power?
I always thought he's possessed by a demon. Now I know for sure the demon that possesses him is possessed by an angel who is possessed by another demon, controlled directly by satan, who owes Hades 60 bizillion bucks.
Activision-Blizzard, EA, Ubisoft. Bermuda triangle has formed and gamers are in the middle of it.
Maybe some of us are already mad as hell?

Kotick already has WoW, right? I thought there was some merger or aquisition of Blizzard by Activision. I guess he just wants more.

It's not enough for the greed of that man. Going by every interview with him his ultimate goal is to have all Activision games priced at $70 AND each game requiring a subscription.
Kotick can go stick a sharp pole up his arse with that attitude.
Personally, I don't play these kind of games, so I don't necessarily care as far as Call of Duty is concerned. It's more the potential gaming trend that concerns me.
While acknowledging that Kotick is a great force of evil (and a huge jerk), I can't really say I'm surprised or blame Activision for trying this with Call of Duty. His job is to make the company money, and if he thinks people will pay a subscription fee to play future versions of this franchise, he pretty much has to try it.
This is not to say that I agree with this trend, but I'm not surprised by it. Every potential customer has a chance to vote with their money, and if enough people support trends like this, we'll see more of it. Sadly, I think we'll see much more of this type approach to games in years to come.

$70 is not his ultimate goal. That's just what he wants to bring it up to next. He wants people to take out mortgages so they can play his fucking games. I don't think he realizes that once he goes full monty with a subscription model, he can't put out a new game every year.
While I'd like to think that this would fail horribly MMOFPS games like Combat Arms have done OK, and since Xbox 360 owners seem happy enough to pay for rubbish like Horse Armor and avatar clothing I can definitely see them paying for an MMOFPS subscription.
Modern Warcraft. It was inevitable.

That's not including all those that never even make it that far. Which is a far greater number.
