For those of you outside the U.S., do you typically see Technic sets for sale in shops that sell Lego?

As a kid, I'd often find sets containing gears and axles at major chains like Toys R Us, but now I never see them physically for sale (apart from at rare specialty shops).
Why doesn't Lego sell this? Sure, it would cost over $1000 but still...

Nice! Good topic idea. I'm glad it's been revived.

I love looking at Lego creations. One of the sad moments of my life was when I realized I never actually created anything new with Legos. I'd build according to directions and then play with them. So much potential for creativity, but I guess I'm not actually all that creative. Ah well, it's still fun. And I can appreciate what other people do.
