It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

i was thinking maybe Gog should make a lightweight client that would automatically update all its games, and would have a chat/ voice chat interface kinda of like the steam overlay, but make it completely optional to install and play games. I think it would be a pretty cool, since a lot of the games i cannot add the steam overlay to. What are you thoughts if this was completely optional?

This gets discussed from time to time. Personally I'd be curious to try it, and might end up liking it, as long as it's optional. Some more users seem to share this opinion, while others simply don't want clients period, and would regard it a waste of development resources.
The last 9001 times this was suggested, the suggester always makes a point to emaphasise how optional they want the client to be.

Also, there's a feature wishlist. Look at the bottom of the page.

If you want to know what other people think of this idea, hit the search button there and type in "client" and then press 'Go'.

Yeah, I would like that too. And make it open source too.

Problems are though that many old games do not support integrated overlays and don't need to be updated frequently. So this client would not be needed for at least 75% of the games here. Non-integrated chat overlays are already available, just take a good third party tool. However they might not work that well.

For now I would be happy if they would extend the downloader to notify me if an update is available and offer me to install it or optionally install it automatically. Also if GOG would do some research about good, free non-integrated chat overlays and would recommend me one, I would be very glad.

I think we've successfully hammered the point home, now excuse me while I beat this dead horse about my desire for it to be optional :P
