Yeah i loved the main game and bought Jimmi's Vendetta when it appeared on steam. The biggest disappointment ever. It was so tedious that i couldn't even be bothered to finish it. I promised myself to never buy another Mafia 2 DLC.

StingingVelvet: You can just ignore the missions and dick around in Mafia 2 as much as you want. You can even choose which completed chapter to start again, allowing you to dick around in different time periods. Also in GTA4 you could completely ignore phone calls from friends.

Delixe: Yeah but there aren't any things to actually do in Mafia 2. GTA has hidden packages/pidgeons, races, stunt jumps, vigilante, manhunt, random characters, drug deliveries, car jacking etc. There is far more to do in Liberty City than there is in most full games.
There wasn't really much to do in Mafia either, to my recollection. I'm not saying you can make it like GTA, but the game is not supposed to be like GTA even with free ride.

And yeah, you piss off your friends in GTA4, but that doesn't matter one bit.

Aliasalpha: You know the odd thing, I've found 3 missions that have proper story now and they also have pretty good (if unforgiving) design, voice work and checkpoints in logical places all followed by narrative cutscenes, almost like it was part of the main game. My suspicion is that they made part of the DLC and then outsourced it to pad out the length or get it done fast because it really does feel like it was made by 2 different groups
All of the DLC was part of the main game at one point; modders found traces of all of them in the base game and it's clear that they were cut very late in development--this is why characters repeatedly suggest Vito should check with Derek and Bruski for work despite them never having any side missions to offer.

I wouldn't be surprised if the original plan was to switch from Vito to Joe for only a couple of missions to fill in the blanks before jumping back again. Also left on the cutting room floor were some additional World War II missions, but since those haven't surfaced in a DLC (yet?) it seems they were cut during development for legitimate reasons rather than DLC exploitation.

This isn't the first time 2K has been caught slicing up a game for DLC purposes; BioShock 2's DLC sat on the game disc in a finished state waiting for you to insert $5 for a 108kb unlocker download. Nothing says value for money like a 2K product!

Navagon: I do like the main game. It has it's shortcomings - like the total lack of Free Ride
There are a variety of Free Ride mods available based on a hidden mission select feature. This particular one lets you play with any mission or weather condition/era of your choice and even seems to have a choice of player characters.

Mafia 2 was developed for a long time, remnants of cut content is not surprising or unique. The DLC does not play like cut content, it plays like filler crap made late in development to try and squeeze out some more money.

In short if the DLC was in the main game it would have made the main game worse, not better.

Ah, thank you! I'll go give this a try.
Is either of the episodes from liberty city like gta iv? I wasnt that interested in gta iv, or the lost and the dammed episode, but the second one looked interesting.

Gay Tony is very good. Reminded me a lot of Vice City rather than GTA IV. Has some batshit insane missions and characters as well. Pretty much what I liked about Vice City. Oh and your friends don't call you every 5 minutes to see if you want to play a round of darts with them.
