Personally, I really hope two things happen.

1) Windows 8 prooperly crashes and burns, and Microsoft goes back to an open OS that's optimised for mouse and keyboard rather than a touch screen.

2) The fads of gimmicky motion/touch controls and 3D die off and stay dead. No more shitty underpowered consoles and crappy Pocahontas in Space movies bringing them back later on.

jackalKnight: I was PISSED when I learned Shigeru Miyamoto killed Dinosaur Planet (and arguably, the Star Fox series) by creating Star Fox Adventures.
I loved Star Fox Adventures because it still had that RAREWARE charm with its cartoony but Immersive level design, but it would have been ten times better if they still made it as Dinosaur Planet.

Perhaps it would have been made if they never made Banjo Kazooie 2 :P

Rare should have never sold to Microsoft. That was a BIG part of why the rush job to make Dinosaur Planet into Star Fox Adventures hurt the overall product's quality.
Now we're stuck with the crappy Rare that only does Kinect games and can't get KI3 greenlit even when other fighting franchises (MK, Street Fighter) have returned.

Am I the only one who does not even hate 3D? I watched The Hobbit in 3D and my eyes did not get strained.
3D is actually a huge part of non-US film grosses. I don't see it going away unless the international market abandons it. The US is becoming less and less a part of "blockbuster" film releases.

Yes, damn gimmick gives me a headache, and it looks like a bunch of animated cardboard cutouts in front of me.

I'll care once they invent an affordable VR helmet that can send stimulus responses to you or a holodeck.

It's nice, but really -- consoles are not going anywhere. Yes, mobile gaming is nice and all, but mobile stores are already not that far from their ceiling, see App Annie report. Apple App Store still grows, but not as fast as before. Mobile just can't be as powerful or as convenient as non-mobile consoles, there are physical reasons for it.

In all honesty, Rare would be even worse nowadays had they stayed with Nintendo. Really, the only difference would be that they'd be developing for the Wii rather than the 360, and seeing as they'd have so much less power to work with, and they'd have to deal with the shitty motion controls, well... Yeah.

The reason why they're only allowed to make shitty Kinect shovelware is because they can't be trusted with anything more important (see Nuts 'n' Bolts).

I'm not worried about eye strain, quite the opposite, really. It jacks up ticket prices and forces you to wear those stupid glasses (which for someone who already wears glasses, is really fun) for something that adds nothing to my enjoyment of the movie. Ten minutes into the movie, I just stop noticing the 3D altogether.

I love 3D, though mainly for gaming. With movies you can't adjust the depth so it's rare to get a movie that's "just right".

I don't want apple to BE the gaming industry because than it will be a monopoly with an expensive product and shit games :(

That is what I do not like with these "Tablets" because it is going to kill a lot of jobs for people who make dedicated hardware.

This guy has a point but I Don't see myself playing anything serious on my phone. I currently have Xperia U with 3.5' screen. Even if I upgrade to, say, Xperia Z that has full HD 5' screen it's too small.
Transition could happen as phones become more powerful, so you can plug them into your TV using HDMI port (yes, I'm aware phones already have it) but question remains how are you going to play them? I don't want to use my 30+ inch TV as touchscreen. Require controller? How are you going to make anything better than 2D or heavily scripted game to support both touchscreens and consoles is beyond my comprehension. To be honest, how is anyone going to make anything serious playable by using touchscreen is beyond my comprehension. I don't think I will ever be able to play FPS on it. Adding controllers (Xperia Play style) or keyboards may solve the issue combined connecting your phone to TV using wireless so you use it as controller but physical controls seem to be almost extinct these days, and for me physical feedback still beats touchscreens. I can blind type on phone keyboard, and I can't do it on touchscreen. Can you?

If they play it smart, dedicated hardware is only good for one more generation. After that it's toast. I can see myself using my phone as both console and fully fledged computer within 5 years. Still concerns and complaints raised above are still valid IMO.

Why do I get the impression that's less horrific than actually working at Rare nowadays?

And women in gaming was kinda the same but too bad (but today its worse)
How is it worse?

Elmofongo: ... Shit what do you think will happen in the next 10-20 years?
No clue, but I hope for interactive, massive online strategy games. Like Civilization but everybody controls a city or makes the job of a civilization.
