Looking for a game that pits Mecha against Kaiju.
There haven't been any good evolution / salvage games as far as I know. "Impossible Creatures" was a hunk of junk. "Spore" is probably good, but overpriced and eats too much RAM.
The holy grail, for me, would be a game that pits Godzilla-scale monsters and gentic tech vesus giant Mecha and technology. Your monster dies? No sweat. Dump a few tissue samples from various monsters into the "vat" and out pops a variant.
This idea was the only good aspect of the crap game "Beast Wrestler".
Trashed a mecha? Loot it for parts and tech.
Ambitious? Try "cyborg" Godzilla-size monsters.

Thank you for the suggestion. A pity the graphics are so terrible.

No, Spore is not good. It probably was, until EA decided that it needed to be dumbed down and made cute in order to please the Sims crowd. What finally hit the store shelves was a shallow and endlessly repetetive series of pointless minigames with, admittedly, some brilliant editors attached.
