predcon: I remember one morning in high school, some kid bashed open one of the vending machines in the canteen, and then ran away without taking anything. I remember how everyone within five meters of it descended upon it and picked it clean of it's inventory and whatever cash was inside within three minutes.

That kid didn't do it to get the vending machine company to "beef up security", or any other semi-noble shit like that. He did it to cause a riot because he thought it was hilarious.

Ha ha. My sides are splitting.

Voight-Kampff: I would like to move that scenario to Japan. Within minutes the surrounding students would have cleaned up the mess, reassembled the machine, made a make-shift glass/plastic-screen for it and togheter began working on how to prevent something like that from happening again. :P
What part of Japan? Just because it isn't America doesn't mean it's automatically a "low crime-rate area".

Really? You see, I'm too much of an idiot not to realise that things aren't that black and white.

US
Japan

There is no reason to get worked up. It's just a bit of "fun". :P

the whole message basically elicited a "no shit" from me on everything they said.

Also saying "we find, we nom nom nom" is one of the lamest sentences I have ever read
I'm preparing for the day this shit escalates to "who can hack a mercantile website (like Amazon or eBay or GameStop or whatever) first and start screwing with orders or start placing orders". It'd be like the old "order fifty pizzas and send them to a random address" prank.

That's a pretty big switch from "we're just doing it because it's funny".

I am *not* in a position to be able to contain any damage done by their antics. If it were just "Oh, we're going to expose shady contracts and such", fine. But it's not, they're going to out checking and savings account numbers and all. Why? Because they think it's fun.
Lulzsec and the governments can have each other as far as I'm concerned, just stay out of people's personal details.
So now they've just announced the electronic equivalent of a terrorist jihad against the world. Congratulations, now you've just given the government a clear definition of cyberterrorism

EDIT: It's also seems like a bizzaro post-Romanticism/Anarchism/Socialism movement, just crazier.

So a bunch of morons high on their egos and flaunting their e-balls, who would more than likely piss themselves if anyone stood up to them in person, are ready to treat the personal information of everyday innocent people as collateral damage in an attempt to make names for themselves (which will be far more important to them than actually uncovering any wrongdoing).

so either people get screwed over by the private details they release, or they get caught, punished, and everyone else suffers in the knee jerk reaction the governments take to prevent it happening again, or both.

im sure as hell worried about how this may end

Well, hopefully not well for them. Probably the best, besides nothing, we can hope for.
They're welcome to try to break into Google. I seriously doubt they have the skill.

I tell you how . More laws , rules and censorship especially in the US , GB , and France.

Agreed. Just like how mass shootings lead to tighter gun control, this will likely lead to new rules and regulations (restrictions) regarding the internet and hacking.
Synic mode
"I wonder how much the governments are paying them to do this to get their way with stronger internet laws and restrictions"
[conspiracy theory]This is a subterfuge initiative by __________ government agency to win support for increased internet restricting legislation.[/conspiracy theory]
