No, I didn't. As Darvond said, it's not canon, at least not in the eyes of Kojima. Fans do like to think it as a part of the storyline, but Hideo counts just those ones on which he has worked on. Same thing goes for Revengence. That thing really isn't part of the MGS storyline.

They are. Also there's Revengeance. It may be a spin-off but it takes place after MGS4 and *will* spoil many events from MGS2 and 4. Apparently the devs wanted to make the scenario and plot more accessible to new players through recaps of earlier events making it also a spoiler-fest for anyone who ever had the slightest intention of playing the whole series. I definitely regretted having played Revengeance before playing MGS4. Stopped playing one hour in and bought the Legacy Collection for PS3 and made a run through the series in the order the games were released. :P
And yet it will massively spoil you the MGS games if you play it first. A really bad choice for the first MGS game released for PC in more than ten years.

When I played Revengeance half of the storyline pretty much bounced off me. The game was too awesome to pass tho.

NES Metal Gear? Wtf

"NES Metal Gear" is a shoddy port that doesn't even tell the same story as the original Metal Gear on the MSX.

The other games created without Kojimas involvement at least fit into the canon (even if Kojima doesn't acknowledge them as such). This one just doesn't. There isn't even a Metal Gear in it. :P

Edit: Okay, I confused a few things - Snake's Revenge on NES was the one that does not at all fit in. Metal Gear on NES wasn't changed as much as I thought. But it's still not the real thing and there's still no fight against Metal Gear (while it's clearly canon that Solid Snake destroyed Metal Gear directly and not some super computer :P).

Great for those that know the franchise and story. But puzzling for those new to the IP.

The above means absolutely nothing to me. The last MGS title i played was on the PS. And even then, i thought it was shit. In fact, the game was that awful i didn't even complete it. So i didn't bother with the rest of the games.

Konami would be wise to release the rest of the games on PC along with these new releases for new players.

Good call. If MGS1 didn't do it for you I don't think there's a chance that it will be any different with any of the other ones.

True but it would be an insane amount of work. Then again, I guess the same guys who created the HD collection would be able to pull off a decent PC port. Still, I've seen few console where a control scheme for PC would be so hard to create, if at all possible. Heck, the PC version of MGS2 introduced two buttons that you had to press to emulate different degrees of button pressure (because the original PS2 version depended heavily on it). And that in case of a game that already depends too much on complicated button combinations. And it got even worse in MGS3, IMO. I still have no idea how they worked around the issue with the HD versions on Xbox 360. Additionally the games sometimes break the fourth wall and reference the system they are on or the type of controller they are played on. Porting the MGS games to PC would be one huge mess.

Case in point its a very console/controller oriented game.
