This is so confusing. Microprose both developed and published titles. What did Atari purchase? I subset of the titles that Microprose developed or published? Do we know what that subset consists of?

Microprose assets were split between Atari (Then Infogrammes) and 2KGames. Thats why you only have some of Microproses' games, the rest like X-Com and Civ are with 2K.

TomNook: Only if it's the superior, UFO: Enemy Unknown. :p
Or the even more superior XCOM!

*ducks*

carnival73: I got the entire X-COM series for ten bucks last year on Steam.

Fujek: Got it for $2 during the promotion *grins and teases*, could hardly resist there, could I?
Amazing thing was that a friend even gave it to me for free when I simply wanted to circumvent the stupid Euro equals Dollar conversion of Steam.
Then again, some of the controls are rather wonky on my system (turning earth is a pain), but I should really play the game some more :/
Wasn't there a multi-player version planned at some time?
Not sure but there appear to be three different developers doing remakes.

There are a series of three uFo games you can find here, one different one at GG and this one is free:

Unfortunately the only official remake is also the only one that has bugger all to do with X-Com.

You mean the freebee, right?

uFo is based on but different as well but Afterlight, by its own merit, is a pretty awesome game. One of my favorites here on GoG.
I know I'd be pretty psyched if BloodNet showed up on here, especially with the manual. :P I've had a fair bit of fun with the few times I've tried it (vampires+cyberpunk? Yes please!) but always had trouble wrapping my head around some of the gameplay.

If I remember correctly (which is questionable since I think it's been about 20 years since I last played it...) but I think Microprose was also responsible for Gunship which was a game I absolutely adored when I was little and probably the one flight based game that I actually really loved. If that came here I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

No I mean that god-awful remake from 2KMarin called XCOM. It is the only official X-Com remake except it's more like an X-Files shooter than a strategy game.

LOL. Just looked it up. You're right, that's absolutely NOT X-COM. It looks like a decent shooter but they really shouldn't be confusing that title with it.
There is no X-Com remake in the works it was all a bad dream! At least thats what I tell myself..
Transport Tycoon (Deluxe) !!!!!!!! Atari got rights to the game (but never really bothered to admit it openly, only after game fans investigation) .... Oh despite the open source port of it I am dying to buy it off GOG!

There is no intended confusion they are actively promoting it as a prequel to X-Com. It's supposed to be the origins of the X-Com agency. In reality they ran out of ideas for new IP's to use with the Bioshock engine so they decided to pillage a recognised name they own.

Incredibly Irrational Games' Ken Levine on twitter said "An X-Com FPS? No."

I pass on each and any X-Com or Tycoon game for the one and only Darklands!
ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON OR BUST!

I wouldn't go so far as to post that because I enjoyed playing those titles. But I believe Darklands was the most epic game that MicroProse released. Despite its dated graphics, it would be a great addition to my GOG collection.
