On the beginning of the book there is a small, unimportant episode about a Swedish businessman that opens a factory in Poland. I was wondering if it is really so written in Swedish and other language editions or it’s just slight manipulation of a translator who wants to make this book somehow more attractive for Poles. In other words is it a factory run in Poland for Polish edition and factory build in Hungary for Hungarian edition etc.
I’ve come across such loose associations to Poland in quite a few books and it always puzzled me.

i seems to remember it to be poland but i'm not sure. I am almost sure it wasn't my native country or i would probably remember it.

That being said, i do not remeber much details of the book because i found themn extremely boring. It felt like i was reading a 700 page long newspaper. There was so much unnecessary details and boring stuff that i had to force myself to finish the trilogy.

The core story was great and the salander/blomkvist combo pure magic but it was covered in such triviality that it became a chore, so i really can not be sure about those little details ;)

This was taken from the english version/translation preview on Amazon. The word "Poland" comes up 7 more times on chapter 1, mostly in the context of industrial investments made there.

I haven't read the book, but what I learned from the Millenium trilogy movies that I saw on TV here was that Finns and Russians are filthy mafia mobsters and bikers. Or maybe they had just changed those parts in the movies for the Finnish (and Russian) viewers?

And I thought Stieg Larsson was supposed to be so anti-racist and everything. :)

So it seems that it this case association to Poland has a reason in plot.
