After testing out the Xbox version that was released this morning, I gave the PC one a shot again. I really wish there was the quick crafting option in the PC version as is available in the former. Having to know everything by heart is a pain, and I was never too wild about learning the stuff via trial and error. I wonder if they'll eventually introduce that new system for the PC. Not to mention having to stick each individual resource into their specific spot every time you want to craft something.

In any case, since it doesn't exist at this time (optional or otherwise), I was wondering whether there was a full list of craftable items available for a convenient printout. Yes, I know there's quite a lot of those, but I would prefer referring to pages rather than jumping back and forth between wiki and MC. So far I haven't found anything but a few limited lists, which are of little use by themselves.
This is a pretty good list IMO.
There are also several mods that add a Recipe Viewer into the game such as for example: Not Enough Items.
Of course this will drag you into the ugly world of Minecraft modding.

Unfortunately, minecraftwiki, while a good resource in itself, is not very printout friendly. That Not Enough Items mod for just recipes doesn't look half bad; I checked out the video on that site. I have yet to dabble with any MC mods. Do they have to be updated with each new version of MC?
There's a mod by Risugami that adds a recipe book to the game that contains everything you can craft/brew/smelt.

Usually yes, hence why I called it the ugly world of MC modding.
There are some amazing things out there though, for example Tecnic Pack which is a mod collection with a handy launcher/downloader application. But the stable version of the mod still uses Minecraft 1.1, because it uses about fifteen different mods that all need to be updated and configured to work together.
For example Thaumcraft and Buildcraft add new blocks to minecraft, but these use the same IDs so Minecraft crashes unless you edit the ID numbers for those blocks.
The Bukkit team is working with Mojang (or for Mojang) to make a better modding interface, so hopefully it will become easier and better.

I guess I'll pass for now then until they improve the whole shebang. I'll keep looking for a good printable guide then... or I'll have to end up making my own.
