Played a good few, most notable would be Lineage 2, Ryzom, WoW, Last Chaos USA, EQ2, LOTRO, Conan plus a bunch of others.

Got a code from Shane-O for The Secret World, havent had time to play much, due to some RL stuff, but its much better than I expected compared to Beta.

Couple of new ones coming down the line, City of Steam and Path of Exile look good to me.
I played WoW. Tried many others, but after few weeks I always get bored. Now thinking about getting The Secret World, since now no subscription is required.

ashout: now i'm getting back into them, and i love conan, everquest 2. why you ask? not becuase i think they are the best, but becuase they require no monthly fee, and i can download them for free. basically, for NO MONEY AT ALL, i can play them for months and months.
From the looks of things, once you reach a certain level in EQ2, you'll either have to pay the monthly fee or fork out extra money every time you want to equip a new piece of loot. This is because later loot is locked in the Free 2 Play game. I stopped playing EQ2 due to that.

I've tired both Guild Wars and had more fun with the first. The second one, I just don't enjoy yet. I'll eventually try The Secret World again when I'm no longer pissed off with it.

I also tried the free version of WOW and found that I enjoyed it. Picked up the starter pack in a sale and will probably subscribe to it once my free time expires. While it may be a subbed based MMO, it has the advantage over EQ2's sub due to being cheaper. Sony have decided to increase the sub price for this region and force payment in Yen, so a $15 sub is now nearer to $20. Yet another reason why I dumped EQ2.

Of course, I'd rather play MXO or Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising. The two MMOs I got the most enjoyment out of. Sadly, both have been shut down.
With Terra going f2p I may consider trying it out, have never played mmos before.
Asheron's Call
EverQuest (played this for about seven years hardcore/raiding, etc.)
World of Warcraft
Dungeons and Dragons Online
EverQuest 2
Lord of the Rings Online

Then I went back for more EverQuest 2. After that I returned to WoW a little more than a year ago although I did cancel it in December. Not sure if I will renew or not. I'm on the fence about that. I burned out grinding for heirloom gear in Argent Tournament. After doing dailies I would just log out again each day. I got one full caster set done and had purchased the stuff you can buy from the guild vendor for the other alts. I figure I have about 2 more months of that crap to be done with it. Then I could get on with the fun of leveling the alts. I have no intention of ever doing endgame or raiding stuff in WoW. I've been there and done that in EQ. My raiding days are long over. I basically just like solo play, questing, making money, gathering, fishing, screwing off chatting, etc. when I play an MMO now.

I've been thinking about playing some LoTRO casually and I'd also like to try out SWTOR for the story and leveling stuff. It sort of depends on how playable the free content is without spending money. I know I wouldn't care about playing after seeing the leveling content. The same is probably true with LoTRO.

I am interested in what comes of Neverwinter Nights and The Elder Scrolls MMO games.

I was going to make a new year's resolution to not play any MMO games at all so I can enjoy the stuff I've been collecting for years while playing them but it is a hard habit for me to break, despite their faults. I find screwing around in virtual worlds to be relaxing and fun. I like exploring them and seeing the sights. I probably should have a look see at Conan too. Reading about it here in this thread has me curious. I've never seen that one. I've tried most MMOs at least briefly but it is the ones listed above that I actually spent some serious time playing.

When I quit WoW I realized I had stopped caring about the rest of the game and was wondering why in world I was still doing dailies.

I thought SWTOR has one of the best leveling systems I had seen with 8 different story lines. Unfortunately, once you hit max level there wasn't much to do. I think they set it up so that you can only create two characters, but it should be enough to give you a feel for the game. All you need to do to get a preferred account is buy one thing, so it's not too bad.

That's probably a good resolution.
My first MMORPG was Guild Wars, which I played for a few months shortly after its release in 2005, with my girlfriend, her sister and one of our friends who was studying abroad (and who suggested the game as a way to stay in touch / spend time together). I really enjoyed it and very casually revisited it from time to time in the following years. I never reached the level cap, never got very far at all really, but I loved the gameplay and exploration and I'll always have a soft spot for that game.

The next one was "the big one", World of Warcraft, which I started playing with that same group of people and more family and friends joined along the way. I played WoW on and off for ~5 years, from a few months before the release of The Burning Crusade in 2007 to mid-2012. I have three characters at the level cap and experienced most of the expansions' content, including the raids, though I was never a hardcore / structured raider. In attempts to find something new / fresh I tried a laundry list of other MMO's during those years (usually through 30-day trials), including:

Age of Conan
Aion
Champions Online
City of Heroes / Villains
DC Universe Online
Dungeons & Dragons Online
EverQuest II
The Lord of the Rings Online
Star Wars: The Old Republic

But none of them stuck. I'm one of those people who really enjoyed Warcraft's lore, and getting to meet characters and visit places I had only read about was often a factor that made me come back when major patches or expansions were released. I never started to dislike WoW, and I am grateful for that. I always took a break when I felt boredom starting to set in and then came back when I felt like it. Pandaria did not click with me however -- though I understand their desire to steer away from the dark and gloomy themes of doom and destruction after Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm -- so I skipped that expansion and I am satisfied with that decision. I am curious about their plans for the next one though, and don't count out the possibility of returning if it seems interesting enough.

In the meantime, Guild Wars 2 is keeping me more than occupied. It's by far my favorite MMO since WoW, and I see myself playing it for a long time to come :)

The only one I ever liked is Guild Wars. I've tried a few others, but to me everything else seems so clunky and convoluted compared to GW. You have to not mind repetition and grinding, though. I never got far enough in any other to know if they're similar that way.
I started with WOW an loved it at first but it started to get boring - then I got an XBOX360 and that was the end of that!!

Just over a year ago I started Lord of the Rings Online and I am still playing. The overarching story is superb and gives a true RPG feel to it that I felt WOW was/is missing. It is reasonably cheap to play - you can but a DVD that allows missions for play up to lvl 60/65 although you can play forever for free by grinding enemies rather than playing missions.

I recently tried Star Trek online and hated it - don't know why but I just did.

James :-)

EDIT:

I did play D&D Online but at that point you couldn't solo most of the quests and my second son was just born so time was at a premium so I gave that up!

My first mmorpg was Tibia, when I was 12-13 years old. Then I grew out of it and switched to a pre-AOS Ultima Online shard. I think it's the game I've played the most, with over 100 hours.
During my adolescence I tried loads of those obscure korean f2p titles that looked all the same, but didn't really get past lvl 5 on most of them. Also EQ2, DCU, LotRO, Aion...
I bought Guild Wars when it came out, but a few months after I found an Everquest server that tried to clone how the game was in 1999 and it absorbed me so I left GW on the shelf.
I don't remember when, but I also played a lot of Dark Age of Camelot (about 5 months?). It's also one of my favourite games.
I tried WoW when it came out, but I didn't really like it. I stopped playing MMOs for a couple of years and then remembered I had wanted to try Eve Online for so long. I played it until I eventually grew tired because I was already multi-billionaire and didn't have anything to spend my money on.
This summer I bought GW2 and play it on and off. I think if I ever touch a MMORPG again, it will only be B2P titles like GW.

I think I'm not a mmorpg person anymore, I've always found it difficult to stay on a game enough to reach the higher levels.

Oh, and I also played some text MUDs. I only remember Medievia, Achaea, Aardwolf, and a Discworld one

The only MMORPG I've ever played seriously was Fairyland. I have the general impression of all games of this type to be idiotic grindfests where you just kill things in one place so you become strong enough to kill things in a different place; and so I don't play them often. However, Fairyland in particular had a "follow the leader" party exploration and a turn based combat system that allowed me to play the game while reading a book or watching a movie, and most of the time I spent focused on the game was spent chatting with my friends online. So I really liked it, and kept playing during the free beta up till it became a paying game, when me (and all my friends) abandoned it.
The MMO I played the most was City of Heroes. Played it for around 4 years total. I also played quite a bit of EQ2, although the problem of easily finding stories in the game tends to put me off. (Too many "I'm too lazy to do it myself" quests.) I played some DDO when it became free (also at release, but it was utter crap then), and enjoyed it for a while, but the free content is limited and I didn't feel like paying for it.

I've tried a number of other games, but because my gaming time has dropped a lot I haven't really played any MMO for a while. I'd like to play a little more SWTOR and DCUO, the first because I've heard that the story is decent, and the second because I enjoyed the little I played in it, and because the Green Lantern power looks very cool (I don't know how it will work out in practice, but I've got to try it).
Oh, I forgot to mention EQ2 which I played for about 2 years. Let's hope I forget about it again.
I still play EvE.

Damn ive sunk a lot of hours into that game
Spent a fair while on Everquest and WoW.

Have dabbled with things like Age Of Conan, Allods, EQ2, and spent a while on LOTRO.

Currently very casually playing DDO and SW:TOR.

I typically approach MMORPGs the wrong way as far as making any progress is concerned - I start half-a-dozen or more characters in quick succession without settling on one, and end up playing the same early stages of the game again and again... Eventually I get frustrated with myself for not getting anywhere and don't go back to the game...

Trying to focus a bit more with DDO and SWTOR!
